In 1897 gebouwd klein BRANDSPUITHUISJE was bestemd voor de stalling van een brandspuit die de gemeente Schalkwijk in hetzelfde jaar had aangeschaft.
Omschrijving
Het met de nokrichting haak op de Overeind gelegen vrijstaande brandspuithuisje op rechthoekige plattegrond bestaat uit één bouwlaag. Het wordt gedekt door een flauw hellend zadeldak met overstek bekroond, waarop rode Hollandse pannen gelegd zijn. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen (halfsteensverband) en zijn verrijkt met een siermetselwerk van gele baksteen, zoals de keperboogvormige strek boven de deur. De hoeken van het brandspuithuisje zijn geaccentueerd door middel van eenvoudige hoeklisenen. De voorgevel (noordoost) is een symmetrisch ingedeelde puntgevel met In het midden een dubbele keperboogvormige deur van opgeklampte kraaldelen. In de geveltop bevindt zich een eenvoudig versierde makelaar en hanebalk. De blinde zijgevels hebben kruisvormige ankers. De achtergevel is eveneens blind.
Waardering
Het pand aan de Overeind is van algemene architectuurhistorische waarde als een relatief zeldzaam voorbeeld van een klein brandspuithuisje uit het eind van de 19de eeuw. Het is gaaf wat betreft hoofdvorm, materiaalgebruik en detaillering. Het is tevens van belang voor de geschiedenis van de ontwikkeling van brandweervoorzieningen.

In 1897 built small FIRE ENGINE HOUSE was intended for the storage of a fire engine that the municipality of Schalkwijk had purchased in the same year.
Description
The fire engine house, with its ridge direction perpendicular to the Overeind and located freestanding on a rectangular plan, consists of one storey. It is covered by a gently sloping gabled roof with overhang and crowned with red Dutch tiles. The facades are constructed of brickwork (half-brick bond) and are enriched with ornamental brickwork of yellow brick, such as the herringbone-arched course above the door. The corners of the fire engine house are accentuated by means of simple corner pilasters. The front facade (northeast) is a symmetrically arranged pointed gable with in the middle a double herringbone-arched door of clamped bead courses. In the gable top is a simply decorated barge-board and barge-rafter. The blind side facades have cross-shaped wall anchors. The back facade is also blind.
Valuation
The building on the Overeind is of general architectural historical value as a relatively rare example of a small fire engine house from the end of the 19th century. It is well preserved as regards main form, material use and detailing. It is also important for the history of the development of fire service facilities.
