Inleiding
Vrijstaand SCHOOLGEBOUW. Gebouwd in 1932 naar een ontwerp van architect Jos Wielders. De bouwstijl is beïnvloed door het Functionalisme.
Omschrijving
Schoolgebouw bestaande uit een langgerekt gedeelte met leslokalen en afgedekt met een zadeldak, en geflankeerd door twee bouwvolumes met platte daken. Drie brede dakkapellen.
Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen. Metselwerk in kettingverband. De baksteen is met uitzondering van de plint voorzien van een witte pleisterlaag. Rechthoekige houten deuren. Rechthoekige stalen vensters, deels met bovenlichten. Zadeldaken met Tuiles du Nord.
Het bouwvolume aan de LINKERZIJDE van de klaslokalen met plat dak telt twee bouwlagen en heeft in de frontgevel een groot stalen venster met 25-ruits roedeverdeling. Een gedeelte van dit bouwvolume loopt iets hoger door. In dit doorlopend geveldeel een horizontale reeks kleine venstertjes. Een hoger doorlopende vierkante schoorsteen met gemetselde kraag vrijwel geheel wit gepleisterd. Aan de linkerzijgevel een uitbouw in een bouwlaag met plat dak met in de frontgevel van deze uitbouw de voormalige docenteningang. In de linkerzijgevel van deze uitbouw een horizontale reeks van vier kleine vensters, en in het linkergeveldeel een rechthoekig venster met hiernaast de naam van de school. Aan de SPEELPLAATSZIJDE van dit bouwvolume een vooruitspringend geveldeel met hierin twee vensters. In het terugliggende geveldeel een horizontale reeks van vijf kleine venstertjes. In de tweede bouwlaag onder de dakrand een horizontale reeks kleine venstertjes.
Leerlingeningang met dubbele deur en toegangstrap met smeedijzeren leuning, leuning van recenter datum.
Middendeel ACHTERGEVEL met horizontale reeks stalen vensters met drie-ruits roedeverdeling. In het linkergeveldeel de tweede leerlingeningang met dubbele houten deur. Bouwvolume links met plat dak en met een horizontale reeks van zes kleine venstertjes. Breed dakoverstek.
Haaks op het linkerdeel van de achtergevel de deels overdekte speelplaats. Het plat houten dak rust op drie houten kolommen, de schoolmuur en een buitenmuur.
Middengeveldeel STRAATZIJDE een reeks klaslokaalvensters met stalen kozijnen.
Bouwvolume aan de RECHTERZIJDE van de klaslokalen eveneens met plat dak en groot stalen venster. Aan de rechterzijgevel een uitbouw in een bouwlaag met plat dak. Aan de bovenzijde van de uitbouw een rechthoekig venster. In de rechterzijgevel van deze uitbouw een rechthoekig venster en dichtgemetselde deuropening. In de achtergevel van de overdekte speelplaats onder de dakrand een horizontale reeks van acht dichtgemetselde vensteropeningen.
Van het INTERIEUR is van belang: authentieke interieurindeling met lange gang met aan de rechterzijde de klaslokalen; gangvloer met grijze tegels met rondom een band rode tegels. Gangwanden met lambrisering van geel geglazuurde tegels. Tussen de gang en de leslokalen telkens een horizontale reeks van vijf rechthoekige vensters met houten kozijnen.
Waardering
Het schoolgebouw is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en typologische ontwikkeling. Het gebouw bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het bijzonder belang voor de bovenregionale geschiedenis van de architectuur en als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van architect Jos Wielders. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het pand aan de situering aan de Schoolstraat en daarmee van belang voor het aanzien van dit deel van Schinveld. Het schoolgebouw vertegenwoordigt stilistisch belang omdat zowel stijlelementen van het Functionalisme (o.a. de witte gevelafwerking, de stalen ramen, de platte daken) als het Traditionalisme (baksteen, zadeldak) in het ontwerp van Jos Wielders verenigd zijn. Het gebouw is tenslotte van algemeen belang wegens de hoge mate van architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en een deel van het interieur en de architectuurhistorische, typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid.

The building volume on the LEFT SIDE of the classrooms with flat roof comprises two storeys and has in the front facade a large steel window with 25-pane glazing bars. A part of this building volume rises somewhat higher. In this continuing facade section a horizontal row of small windows. A higher continuing square chimney with mortared collar almost entirely white plastered. On the left side facade an extension in one storey with flat roof with in the front facade of this extension the former teachers' entrance. In the left side facade of this extension a horizontal row of four small windows, and in the left facade section a rectangular window with next to it the name of the school. On the PLAYGROUND SIDE of this building volume a projecting facade section with in it two windows. In the recessed facade section a horizontal row of five small windows. In the second storey under the eaves a horizontal row of small windows.
