Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
FARMHOUSE of the head-and-body type (with tail section), built in 1865 and remodelled in 1882. The farmhouse consists of three building masses: a residential and a business section (head and body) with roof ridges perpendicular to the Dorpsstraat and a tail section with roof ridge parallel to the Dorpsstraat. Against the east side of the body, a new barn was placed at the beginning of the twentieth century, which did not impair the monumental value of the original complex.
Description
The farmhouse has a north-south-oriented ground plan consisting of two rectangles of unequal size lying one behind the other. The smaller southern rectangle (on the Dorpsstraat) forms the basis for the residential house, the larger northern rectangle for the business section. On the east side of the business section is a tail section under recessed gabled roof.
The residential section is built of purple-red brick in Flemish bond with grey-mortared plinth and consists of one storey with attic storey under a gently pitched gabled roof covered with black-glazed Dutch tiles and an overhang provided with carved bargeboards, maker's mark and corner maker's marks.
The symmetrically arranged front facade of the dwelling (S) contains two rectangular six-pane sash windows on either side of the front door. This panelled door has a cast-iron ornamental grille and arborvitae in fanlight. The attic storey likewise contains two rectangular six-pane sash windows. Door and windows are crowned by a moulding.
The gutter mouldings along the side facades have scalloped wooden mouldings on the upper and lower edges, identical to the bargeboards along the front facade.
The left side facade (W) contains, from right to left, a six-pane sash window and a casement door.
The right side facade (E) has, from left to right: a six-pane sash window, a four-pane window and two small square window openings one above the other.
The business section, separated from the residential section by a firewall, is built on a rectangular ground plan. The internal wooden load-bearing structure consists of a double square with outer post spaces on the north, west and east sides and on the northeast corner the tail section under recessed gabled roof. The tail section contains a South Holland cow barn. The business section consists of one storey, built of purple-red brick in Flemish bond and in half-brick bond, under a high hipped roof with half-hipped end on the south side and covered with red and black-glazed Dutch tiles. On the ridge of the roof is a large cylindrical air ventilator of lead and zinc, crowned by a weather vane.
The left side facade of the business section (W) has a casement door.
The right side facade (E) has been renewed.
The rear facade (N) has, from right to left: threshing door, a small two-pane window under the eaves and a door with four-pane fanlight.
The north facade of the built-on cow barn contains among other things a door in the middle and a small square window to its left. The gable end of the tail section has a wooden top gable with bargeboards.
The interior of the farmhouse is largely intact, especially in the residential section, with two rooms to the left and right of a passage which are provided with original wooden doors, wall panelling, chimney and, in the left room, a stucco ceiling.
Valuation
The head-and-body farmhouse of the farmhouse complex is of general importance from a cultural-historical and architectural-historical perspective as a well-preserved example of agricultural architecture from the second half of the nineteenth century. Moreover, the head-and-body farmhouse has ensemble value as a prominent component of a well-preserved linear settlement structure, i.e. a road village with a drainage channel.
