Inleiding
Café Boschhuis is rond gebouwd 1915 met een architectonische afwerking in Art Nouveau stijl. Oorspronkelijke bood het pand onderdak aan een winkel, een woonhuis en een café. In 1940 is de winkel bij de woning getrokken. Midden jaren vijftig is het café gewijzigd en uitgebreid. In 1959 is de bijschuur verbouwd tot "oud drents" zaaltje. In 1992 zijn dakkapellen geplaatst. Het hoofdvolume en de gevelindelingen zijn desondanks nagenoeg ongewijzigd gebleven. Het café ligt midden in het deel van de brink dat rond de eeuwwisseling meer verstedelijkt werd met notabelenwoningen.
De bescherming betreft het oorspronkelijke bouwvolume, de later wijzigingen en verbouwingen vallen buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Horecacomplex opgetrokken in baksteen over één bouwlaag. Het oorsrponkelijke woning-/winkelgedeelte onder een afgeknot schilddak, het cafédeel onder een afgewolfd zadeldak met pironnen, beide gedekt met platte en gegolfde friese pannen. De aangebouwde zaal heeft een zadeldak. Het pand heeft rondom een gemetselde plint met afzaten. Rondom een gootlijst en een fries van siermetselwerk. Ter hoogte van onder- en bovendorpels van de vensters banden van geel siermetselwerk. De gevelopeningen op de begane grond zijn rechtgesloten onder een segmentvormige strek van siermetselwerk met natuurstenen aanzet- en sluitstenen. In de trommelvelden verblendsteen.
De voorgevel heeft op de scheiding van woning en café een betegelde portiek met de entree. Rechts van de portiek de kopgevel van het café met twee schuifvensters met tienruits bovenlicht en in de geveltop met versierde windveren een kleiner schuifvenster met drieruits bovenlicht. Links van de portiek de erker van de woning. In de voorgevel twee gekoppelde vensters met zesruits bovenlicht, in de zijgevels een venster met vierruits bovenlicht. Boven de erker een gemetselde dakopbouw onder platdak met de balkondeur. Het balkon heeft een houten balkonbalustrade. De gevelindeling links van het woonhuis duidt nog op de oorspronkelijke winkelfunctie; links een glasdeur met zesruits bovenlicht, rechts een breed venster met achtruits bovenlicht.
De linkerzijgevel heeft drie vensters met achtruits bovenlicht. Centraal een gemetselde dakopbouw onder platdak waarin twee vensters met (afwijkende) drieruits bovenlichten.
Voor de rechterzijgevel is een veranda geplaatst. Vier tapstoelopende zuilen dragen een lessenaardak met windveer. De veranda heeft een daklijst van schroten. De zijgevel is dichtgezet met een borstwering en drie T-vensters. De vensters hebben vijftienruits bovenlichten en een strook van zes kleine ruiten aan de onderzijden. In de gevel links een schuifvenster en, onder de veranda, vanaf links, een dubbele glasdeur en twee schuifvenster, allen met tienruits bovenlicht. In het dakschild Links een afgewolfde steekkap met piron. De kap heeft een met rankmotieven bewerkt hoefijzerspant op korbelen. Op de windveren decoratief schilderwerk en de tekst "café bar". In de geveltop een klimmend drielicht venster, de zijdelen met een éénruits, het middendeel met een hoger tweeruits bovenlicht, het geheel onder een segmentboog, met eenzelfde decoratie als op de begane grond. Rechts in het dakschild een moderne dakkapel.

Café Boschhuis was built around 1915 with architectural finishing in Art Nouveau style. Originally the building housed a shop, a residence and a café. In 1940 the shop was combined with the dwelling. The original residential/shop section under a hipped roof, the café section under a half-hipped gabled roof with ridge tiles, both covered with flat and corrugated Frisian tiles. The adjoining hall has a gabled roof. The building has a masonry plinth with offsets all around. All around a drip moulding and a frieze of ornamental brickwork. At the level of the under and over-sills of the windows bands of yellow ornamental brickwork. The facade openings on the ground floor are straight-edged under a segmental arch in ornamental brickwork with natural stone setting and closing stones. In the drum fields decorative brick.
The front facade has a tiled porch with the entrance at the division of the residence and café. To the right of the porch the end wall of the café with two sash windows with ten-pane fanlights and in the gable top with decorated wind vanes a smaller sash window with three-pane fanlight. To the left of the porch the bay window of the residence. In the front facade two coupled windows with six-pane fanlights, in the side facades a window with four-pane fanlight. Above the bay window a masonry roof structure under flat roof with the balcony door. The balcony has a wooden balcony balustrade.
