Inleiding
De voormalige MODELMAKERIJ van de ijzergieterij van Nering Bögel is in 1928 gebouwd naar ontwerp van J.D. Postma. Later is het gebouw als laboratorium in gebruik genomen. Het bakstenen gebouw is in functionalistische stijl ontworpen. De vensters zijn in horizontale banden gevat en de traptoren heeft een geometrische plasticiteit. Tot en met 1997 is het gebouw in gebruik geweest bij door Akzo Chemie. Het interieur is gewijzigd waarbij de indeling gehandhaafd is. Het exterieur, inclusief stalen ramen, is geheel intact gebleven.
Omschrijving
Het gebouw is opgetrokken in baksteen vanaf een rechthoekige plattegrond over drie bouwlagen onder een plat dak. De vensters zijn geplaatst tussen doorlopende raamdorpels en lateien waardoor een sterk horizontale gevelgeleding is ontstaan. De stalen vensters zijn vier- of drieledig en hebben een laddervormige roedenverdeling. De vensters van de tweede verdieping zijn lager. Op de westhoek is een traptoren met liftschacht geplaatst die anderhalf maal de hoogte van het gebouw heeft. In de westgevel van de toren een hoog doorlopend venster van glazen bouwstenen. Rechts aan de voet van de toren een halfronde uitbouw. In de uitbouw een vijfledige vensterpartij.

Description
The building is constructed in brick from a rectangular floor plan over three storeys beneath a flat roof. The windows are placed between continuous window sills and lintels creating a strongly horizontal facade articulation. The steel windows are four or three-part and have a ladder-form glazing bars arrangement. The windows of the second storey are lower. On the west corner a stair tower with lift shaft is placed which is one and a half times the height of the building. In the west facade of the tower a high continuous window of glass bricks.
