Inleiding
De centraal op de Brink gelegen Wilhelmina-fontein is onthuld op 31 augustus 1898 bij gelegenheid van de kroning van Hare Majesteit. De fontein had oorspronkelijk het kroonstuk moeten worden op de aanleg van de Hoogdrukwaterleiding in 1893, in Italiaanse traditie (Trevifontein). Vanwege ontoereikende fondsen werd de fontein echter het sluitstuk op de begroting. De troonsbestijging bracht meer kapitaal; samen met het reeds vergaarde geld werd de fontein aangelegd. De fontein, bekroond met de Deventer stadsmaagd, is in Neo-Renaissance stijl ontworpen door stadsarchitect Mulock Houwer. Het beeldhouwwerk is van W.G. van Poorten, overig steenhouwerswerk is verricht door H.H. Beltman, het gietwerk is gedaan door Nering Bögel.
De fontein is in 1960 gedemonteerd en afgevoerd en in 1985 weer herbouwd. Bij de restauratie is tussen de putti op de kolom de tekst "gesloopt 1960 herbouwd 1985" gehakt.
Omschrijving
Ronde natuurstenen fontein, bestaande uit een bassin met op een basement een kom op consoles. Vanuit de kom rijst een kolom op met het beeld van de stadsmaagd, op een basement met schelpmotieven.
De fontein wordt in de lengte in drie parten verdeeld door boven elkaar geplaatste beeldhouwwerken. Ieder deel is gelijk: aan de bassinrand een bronzen waterspuwende heremietkreeft op een piedestal, op het kolombasement een putto met waterspuwende hoorn aan de mond en tegen de kolom een Ionische zuil die het hoofdgestel van de kolom draagt. Tussen de Ionische zuilen koperen waterspuwende leeuwenkoppen. Op het hoofdgestel, boven de zuilen, vazen. Op de kolom een tempietto als piedestal voor de stadsmaagd met als attributen palmtak, schild en kroon.
Boven de leeuwenkoppen, in goud op snee, de teksten "Wilhelminafontein", "onthuld 31 augustus 1898" en "gesticht door gemeente en burgerij".

Introduction
The Wilhelmina fountain, centrally sited on the Brink, was unveiled on 31 August 1898 on the occasion of the coronation of Her Majesty. The fountain was originally intended to be the crowning achievement on the construction of the High Pressure Water Pipeline in 1893, in the Italian tradition (Trevi Fountain). Due to insufficient funds, the fountain became instead the final item in the budget. The accession to the throne brought more capital; combined with the already raised funds the fountain was constructed. The fountain, crowned with the Deventer city maiden, was designed in Neo-Renaissance style by city architect Mulock Houwer. The sculpture is by W.G. van Poorten, other stonemasonry work was carried out by H.H. Beltman, the cast work was done by Nering Bögel.
The fountain was dismantled and removed in 1960 and rebuilt in 1985. During the restoration the text "demolished 1960 rebuilt 1985" was chiselled between the putti on the column.
Description
Round natural stone fountain, consisting of a basin with on a base a bowl on consoles. From the bowl rises a column with the figure of the city maiden, on a base with shell motifs.
The fountain is divided lengthways into three parts by sculptural works placed above each other. Each part is identical: at the basin rim a bronze water-spouting hermit crab on a pedestal, on the column base a putto with water-spouting horn at the mouth and against the column an Ionic column which supports the entablature of the column. Between the Ionic columns copper water-spouting lion's heads. On the entablature, above the columns, vases. On the column a small temple as pedestal for the city maiden with as attributes a palm frond, shield and crown.
Above the lion's heads, in gold inlay, the texts "Wilhelminafontein", "unveiled 31 August 1898" and "founded by municipality and citizens".
