Inleiding
SCHOOL naar ontwerp van Deventer stadsarchitect W.C. Metzelaar uit 1874, in Eclectische stijl. Decoratie in boogvelden met zonnesterren en levensbomen. De school ligt teruggerooid in de straat waardoor een soort pleintje ontstaan is.
In de sluitstenen het monogram van Metzelaar.
Omschrijving
School opgetrokken in baksteen vanaf een rechthoekige plattegrond over twee bouwlagen onder een met Hollandse pannen gedekt U-vormig schilddak. Het trappenhuis dat in de U-vorm ligt heeft een plat dak.
De kozijnen aan de vrije voor- en achtergevel zijn alle recht gesloten onder segmentbogen.
De symmetrische voorgevel heeft een middenrisaliet. Op de begane grond bevindt zich hier de entree. Op de verdieping een tweelicht venster met houten deelstijl. In het boogveld boven het venster het bouwjaar. Aan weerszijden van het risaliet op beide verdiepingen voor de lokalen een drielichtvenster met twee houten deelstijlen. De boogvelden van de vensters zijn voorzien van sierpleisterwerk in relief. De strekken hebben een profiellijst. Alle vensters zijn vierruits schuifvensters met tweeruits bovenlicht. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een overstekende dakgoot op houten klossen, voorzien van acroteria.
De achtergevel heeft aan weerskanten van de gewijzigde middenpartij drielichtvensters als in de voorgevel voor de lokalen.

Description
School erected in brick from a rectangular ground plan over two storeys beneath a U-shaped hipped roof covered with Dutch tiles. The stairwell that lies in the U-shape has a flat roof.
The windows on the free front and rear facades are all straight closed beneath segmental arches.
The symmetrical front facade has a central risalit. On the ground floor the entrance is located here. On the floor a two-light window with wooden central mullion. In the arch field above the window the building year. On either side of the risalit on both floors for the classrooms a three-light window with two wooden central mullions. The arch fields of the windows are provided with ornamental plastered relief work. The stretches have a moulded edge. All windows are four-pane sash windows with two-pane fanlight. The facade is finished with an overhanging gutter on wooden corbels, provided with acroteria.
The rear facade has on either side of the modified central section three-light windows as in the front facade for the classrooms.
