Inleiding
De GEVEL van "Magazijn de Zon" is in 1905 in Art Nouveau stijl gebouwd naar ontwerp van F.M.J. Caron. Hij was aan het begin van deze eeuw samen met J. Kuijt een van de vaste ontwerpers van wat later de warenhuisketen Vroom & Dreesmann zou gaan heten.
Het gebouw achter de gevel en de gevel op de begane grond is ingrijpend gemoderniseerd volgens de huidige huisstijl van V&D.
Omschrijving
Gevel op de eerste en tweede verdieping uitgevoerd in natuursteen, eindigend in een royaal overstekende kroonlijst op consoles met in de attiekzone siersmeedwerk in de lijn van een segmentboog tussen natuurstenen pylonen. Alle vensters zijn gescheiden door deelzuilen en hebben onder de bovenlichten natuurstenen lateien.
Op de eerste verdieping centraal een zwarte glasplaat met daarop in gouden letters "Magazijn de Zon" onder een eveneens gouden gestileerde zon. Rechts een segmentboogvormige drieledige erker met siersmeedwerk in het midden. Links een balkon. Op de tweede verdieping twee balkons. Alle balkons met smeedijzeren hekwerk.

The FACADE of "Magazijn de Zon" was built in 1905 in Art Nouveau style according to design by F.M.J. Caron. He was at the beginning of this century together with J. Kuijt one of the regular designers of what would later become the department store chain Vroom & Dreesmann.

On the first storey centrally a black glass panel with on it in golden letters "Magazijn de Zon" beneath an equally golden stylized sun. To the right a segmentally arched three-part bay with decorative metalwork in the middle. To the left a balcony. On the second storey two balconies. All balconies with wrought iron railings.
