Inleiding
Vrijstaand HERENHUIS, "o/d ESCH", in een op de eigentijdse Engelse landhuisbouw geïnspireerde bouwstijl met bijzondere terracotta ornamentiek in de gevels. Het huis is in 1911 gebouwd naar een ontwerp van de architect S. de Clerq (Den Haag) in opdracht van het echtpaar Van Rossum-Sepp. De villa staat aan de Gronausestraat, de belangrijke uitvalsweg van Enschede richting Glanerbrug en Duitsland. Hoewel het pand deels schuil gaat achter een hoge haag als erfscheiding springt het met name vanwege de bijzondere decoratie in het oog.
Omschrijving
Pand van twee bouwlagen op rechthoekige plattegrond onder een steil met blauw/paars geglazuurde tuile du Nordpannen gedekt schilddak. Op de uiteinden van de nok pironnen. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in bruine baksteen. De vensterpartijen zijn samengesteld uit zesruits vensters, op de begane grond met kleine roedenverdeling in de bovenlichten, en zijn afgehangen met luiken. De voorgevel (Z) heeft een hoog opgaande middenpartij met topgevel onder een steekkap en beganegronds een grote houten erker onder balkon. Op de terracotta gevelsteen recht boven de erker is in reliëf een bijeengebonden korenschoof en de naam "De Aesch". afgebeeld. In de geveltop twee terracotta gevelstenen met het jaartal 1911. De topgevel heeft iets uitgemetselde aanzetten, natuurstenen afdekplaten en een schoorsteen op de nok.
De hoofdentree met oorspronkelijke paneeldeur bevindt zich in het midden van de westgevel in een ondiep portiek onder segmentboog. Links in de oostgevel een loggia op gemetselde kolommen met terracotta aanzetstenen.

Detached GENTLEMAN'S HOUSE, "o/d ESCH", in a building style inspired by contemporary English country house architecture with distinctive terracotta ornaments in the facades. The house was built in 1911 according to a design by architect S. de Clerq (The Hague) commissioned by the married couple Van Rossum-Sepp. The villa is situated on the Gronausestraat, the important exit road from Enschede towards Glanerbrug and Germany. Although the building is partly concealed behind a high hedge as a property boundary, it stands out particularly because of its distinctive decoration.
Description
Building of two storeys on a rectangular floor plan beneath a steep hipped roof covered with blue/purple glazed Tuile du Nord tiles. Finials on the ends of the ridge. The facades are built in brown brick. The window sections are composed of six-pane windows, on the ground floor with glazing bars in the fanlights, and are hung with shutters. The front facade (S) has a tall central section with a gabled roof under a skew gable and on the ground floor a large wooden bay window under a balcony. On the terracotta facade stone directly above the bay window is depicted in relief a sheaf of wheat bound together and the name "De Aesch". In the gable top two terracotta facade stones with the year 1911. The gable roof has slightly projecting ashlar bases, natural stone coping slabs and a chimney on the ridge.
The main entrance with original panelled door is located in the middle of the west facade in a shallow porch under a segmental arch. On the left, in the east facade, a loggia on brick columns with terracotta base stones.
On the right against the front facade a tall rising risalit with a gabled roof as on the front facade. Against the risalit is a low extension under a flat roof. The interior has recently been restored while retaining original elements such as parquet floors, built-in cupboards and benches, mantels and the staircase.
