Inleiding

Introduction

The head-neck-body FARMHOUSE consists of a transversely placed villa which is connected to the business section by means of a short neck. The farmhouse was built in 1931 commissioned by Mrs. Hogeveen from Leeuwarden in Interwar style according to a design by Bosma's architectural office in Drachten/Heerenveen. This was the reconstruction of a dairy farmhouse, after its predecessor on the site had burned down. The original design was executed with modifications following advice from the provincial beauty commission. The building is situated slightly elevated on an extensive plot of land, on the front and west side of the road separated by a low hedge. On the front and to the west of the farmhouse is a spacious garden with remnants of the old peasant garden, with chestnuts, beeches and a small fruit orchard. In front of the driveway on the east side is a large iron gate with two brick piers with inscription: OUD HOGEVEEN. The entrance to the residential section is located on the western side facade. In 1980 a tank room was built; in 1992 the young stock shed was enlarged. Later extensions behind the farmhouse fall outside national heritage protection due to insufficient architectural value and age.

Description

The residential section of one storey is built on a rectangular plan. The overhanging half-hipped roof is covered with black matt glazed Dutch tiles. In the southern roof slope is a lodge with hipped roof. On the centre of the ridge is a brick chimney under chimney board. The external brickwork consists of red flamed brick. The rectangular multi-pane windows are all provided with glazing bars and broad frames. The windows are composed of two, three and six-pane lights. The entrance with a three-step brick stoep and a brick flower planter is located on the west facade under a wooden canopy running over the neck. The wooden front door has vertical glass-in-lead side lights. The large window next to the entrance is identical to the two windows on the front facade; they consist of six-pane windows with three-pane top and side lights. In the west facade is a larder cellar window above which a wooden bench is attached. The barn section is connected to the front house by means of a neck with flat roof closure. On the west side is a renewed terrace door; on the east side is a wooden door with a three-step brick stoep. The barn section has a half-hipped roof, covered with black smoked Dutch tiles. In the middle of the ridge is a wooden transversely placed air duct. The external brickwork consists of red flamed bricks. In the front facade is a memorial stone with inscription: BURNED DOWN AND REBUILT IN 1931 JELLE ROELS HOGEVEEN JUNIJ 1881. Beside it is an original wooden door with two-pane side lights. The original six-pane stable windows in the side facades and rear facade have been replaced by concrete windows, with the facade division not changed. On the west facade are 13 stable windows; the east facade has six stable windows and two original double clamped stable doors. In the rear facade are two stable doors under a higher raised roof slope and a wooden door; between them are four stable windows.
