Inleiding
De FABRIEK is in 1905 in Heerenveen gerealiseerd in opdracht van J.D. Woltman. In 1915 is het pand, uitgevoerd in Overgangsstijl, uitgebreid. Hierbij zijn de bovenste twee bouwlagen tot stand zijn gekomen. Getuige het opschrift werd het pand in 1915 gebruikt als glasfabriek, later deed het dienst als oliefabriek. In 1937 zijn de meeste bij de fabriek behorende opstallen gesloopt. De eigenlijke olieslagerij bleef bestaan; er werd een kaaspakhuis van gemaakt. In 1974 is het kaaspakhuis tot een onderkomen voor een jongeren- en een creativiteitscentrum verbouwd. De indeling is bij deze verbouwing op alle verdiepingen grondig gewijzigd. Het pand is gesitueerd op de hoek van de Woltmanstraat en Fok, nabij de Stationsbrug over de Heerensloot. Het belendende pand is tegen de noordgevel van de fabriek aangebouwd.
Omschrijving
De fabriek is op rechthoekige grondslag gebouwd en heeft vier bouwlagen en een platte dakafsluiting. Het opgaand muurwerk bestaat uit bruine handvorm bakstenen op een gepleisterde plint met een gekanteelde gevelafsluiting. De gevels worden horizontaal geleed door tandlijsten in gele en gesmoorde bakstenen banden tussen de bouwlagen. Verticaal worden de gevels verdeeld door gemetselde lisenen met gepleisterde banden ter hoogte van de tandlijsten. Het metselwerk op de eerste twee bouwlagen is afwisselend wit en grijs gevoegd waardoor een horizontale geleding ontstaat. Alle vensters worden afdgesloten door een segment- of rondboog van gele en gesmoorde bakstenen en hebben in gele en gesmoorde bakstenen gemetselde afzaten. De voorgevel is drie traveeën breed waarbij de middenpartij hoger is opgetrokken dan de rest van het gebouw. In deze torenachtige uitbouw is onder de segmentbogige afsluiting een gepleisterd, bijna onleesbaar opschrift: 1915/ GLASFABRIEK/ WOLTMAN//. De middelste traveeën van de bouwlagen hebben voorts vier getoogde twaalfruitsvensters van kunststof de oorspronkelijke houten luiken vervangen. Naast de vernieuwde entree op de begane grond is een gevelsteen met opschrift: DE EERSTE STEEN GELEGD DOOR J.D. WOLTMAN JZ 30 JUNI 1905. De buitenste traveeën aan de voorgevel worden ingedeeld door getoogde ijzeren negenruits industrievensters. De zuidelijke zijgevel bestaat eveneens uit drie traveeën, breder dan die aan de voorgevel. De drie bovenste bouwlagen zijn identiek aan elkaar; iedere travee is voorzien van twee diepliggende smalle rondboogvensters onder rondboog. De eerste bouwlaag wordt ingedeeld door twee vernieuwde getoogde deuren; aan weerszijden een getoogd negen- en zesruits ijzeren venster. Aan de noordelijke zijgevel zijn dezelfde rondboogvensters als aan de zuidgevel. De detaillering is echter soberder, het voegwerk op de eerste twee bouwlagen is niet onderscheiden en de gele en gesmoorde bakstenen zijn minder gebruikt. De achtergevel is deels witgepleisterd en voorzien van nieuwe deuren. De bovenste twee bouwlagen van bruine bakstenen worden ingedeeld door getoogde drieruitsvensters. Voor de gevel is een brandtrap geplaatst.
Waardering
De fabriek, in 1905 in Heerenveen gebouwd, is van algemeen cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en industrieel-archeologisch belang:

Introduction
The FACTORY was realised in 1905 in Heerenveen on commission of J.D. Woltman. In 1915 the building, executed in Transitional style, was extended. This resulted in the completion of the top two storeys. As evidenced by the inscription, the building was used in 1915 as a glass factory, later serving as an oil factory. In 1937 most of the buildings belonging to the factory were demolished. The actual oil mill remained; it was converted into a cheese warehouse. In 1974 the cheese warehouse was converted into premises for a youth and creativity centre. The layout was thoroughly altered on all floors during this conversion. The building is situated on the corner of Woltmanstraat and Fok, near the Stationsbrug bridge over the Heerensloot. The adjacent building is built against the north gable of the factory.
Description
The factory is built on a rectangular groundplan and has four storeys and a flat roof finish. The masonry consists of brown hand-moulded bricks on a plastered plinth with a crenellated gable finish. The gables are horizontally articulated by dentil courses in yellow and tempered brick bands between the storeys. Vertically the gables are divided by moulded pilasters with plastered bands at the height of the dentil courses. The masonry on the first two storeys is alternately white and grey jointed creating a horizontal articulation. All windows are closed by a segmental or round arch of yellow and tempered bricks and have offsets moulded in yellow and tempered bricks. The front gable is three bays wide with the central section built higher than the rest of the building. In this tower-like structure, beneath the segmental arch closing, is a plastered, almost illegible inscription: 1915/ GLASFABRIEK/ WOLTMAN//. The central bays of the storeys have furthermore four arched twelve-pane plastic windows which have replaced the original wooden shutters. Beside the renewed entrance on the ground floor is a gable stone with inscription: DE EERSTE STEEN GELEGD DOOR J.D. WOLTMAN JZ 30 JUNI 1905. The outer bays at the front gable are divided by arched nine-pane iron industrial windows. The southern side gable likewise consists of three bays, wider than those on the front gable. The three upper storeys are identical to each other; each bay is provided with two recessed narrow round-arch windows beneath a round arch. The first storey is divided by two renewed arched doors; on either side an arched nine- and six-pane iron window. The northern side gable has the same round-arch windows as the southern gable. The detailing is however simpler; the jointing on the first two storeys is not differentiated and the yellow and tempered bricks are less used. The rear gable is partly plastered white and provided with new doors. The top two storeys of brown brick are divided by arched three-pane windows. A fire escape has been placed in front of the gable.
