Inleiding
Vier GRAFZERKEN en GRAFMONUMENT, die samen het familiegraf vormen van de heren van Windesheim. Het familiegraf ligt op de Hervormde begraafplaats in Windesheim. De grafzerken dateren respectievelijk uit 1879, 1905, 1969 en 1973. Het grafmonument is neergezet voor Baron de Vos van Steenwijk genaamd Van Essen, overleden in 1834. Het gietijzeren grafmonument is vervaardigd door één van de oudste ijzergieterijen van Nederland, de firma Nering Bögel uit Deventer.
In het grafmonument is gebruik gemaakt van elementen uit het Neo-Classicisme en Neo-Renaissance en grafsymbolen: de omgekeerde fakkel, die betrekking heeft op (hernieuwd) leven; de urn met rouwsluier, een motief uit de oudheid toen cremeren gebruikelijk was.
Om het geheel staat een ijzeren hek. De begraafplaats is voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang.
Omschrijving
De vier hardstenen grafzerken vormen een rechthoek. Aan één van de uiteinden staat het gietijzeren grafmonument op een hardstenen sokkel. Dit bestaat uit een Romeins Cippus-model (zuil), waarop een urn met een rouwsluier gegoten is.
Aan één kant van het volume staat het familiewapen met daaronder het opschrift: "H.A.Z. Baron de Vos van Steenwijk genaamd Van Essen, Vrijheer van Abbenbroek en heer van Windesheim obiit 3 sept. 1834". Aan de andere kant, gericht naar de grafzerken: "Psalm 103.15 De dagen des menschen zijn als het gras; gelijk een 'bloem des velds', zoo bloeit hij". Op de hoeken van het grafmonument zijn omgekeerde brandende fakkels gegoten. Verder is het aan de bovenzijde afgewerkt met eierlijsten en voluten.

Description

Baron de Vos van Steenwijk called Van Essen, Viscount of Abbenbroek and lord of Windesheim obiit 3 Sept. 1834". On the other side, facing the gravestones: "Psalm 103.15 The days of man are as the grass; like a 'flower of the field', so he flourishes". On the corners of the grave monument are cast inverted burning torches. Furthermore it is finished at the top with egg-and-dart moulding and volutes.
