Description

Built in 1921-25 OUTBUILDING (place name "coach house"), based on a sketch design by W.E. Gatacre and developed by architect professor Slothouwer, in the style of 18th-century outbuildings such as those still seen in a watercolour by Zuidema Broos. The one-storey high, red brick outbuilding consists of a rectangular main block and two corner pavilions projecting forward. The outbuilding is covered by a hipped roof tiled with blue old Dutch tiles. On the roof slopes there are a number of roof dormers with sash windows and pediments executed in 18th-century style, and several brick chimneys with sandstone caps. The left and right sides and the roofs of the roof dormers are covered with blue slate tiles. The façades have a regular arrangement of windows and doors. In the front façade (east) there are among others French doors, multi-paned sash windows and doors with multi-paned fanlights. In the extension at the rear façade (west) there are four 6-pane windows fitted with stained glass. These four stained-glass windows composed of 16th and 17th-century pieces, consist of 24 panes (6 per window).

INTERIOR

On the upper floor there are among others a bedroom lined with blue-gold gilt leather (the "gilt leather bedroom") and two 17th-century box beds (one dated 1617). In 1921 the "gilt leather bedroom" and the two box beds with their wainscoting and several 17th-century doors were transferred from the Parkstraat to De Wiersse by the daughter of De Stuers, Alice, and fitted into the outbuilding. The outbuilding also houses the archive of Victor de Stuers. The eastern outbuilding, also built in 1921-25, was destroyed during the Second World War in 1945 by the Germans and was never rebuilt.
