Inleiding
EENDENKOOI "de Westpolder" gelegen achter de boerderijen "Manneplaats" en "Nieuw Midhuizen" in de Westpolder. De kooi is in 1896 ingericht door enkele ingelanden van de Westpolder. Hiervoor werd een kolk die in 1877 was ontstaan na een dijkdoorbraak, verder uitgegraven. Voor de exploitatie van de kooi koos men voor een naamloze vennootschap. Deze vennootschap is in 1926 geliquideerd en de exploitatie werd voortgezet als maatschap. De kooi is de laatste met kooirecht die nog in particulier bezit is in de provincie Groningen.
Aan het begin van het pad dat naar de kooi leidt, staat de woning waar de kooiker woont. Deze valt buiten rijksbescherming vanwege onvoldoende kwaliteit.
Ten noordoosten van de kooi ligt op ongeveer 750 meter afstand een tweede kooi. Deze is in eigendom bij de Stichting het Groninger Landschap.
Omschrijving
EENDENKOOI bestaande uit een kooibos en een kooiplas met vier vangpijpen; rondom de kooiplas bevinden zich zitwallen met daaromheen een grondwal voor afscherming en beschutting. De vangpijpen zijn licht gebogen en bestaan uit een kolk met schermen van riet en hout; een vangbak met valluik en spiegel zijn iets schuin achter de pijp geplaatst. Aan twee zijden van de kooi loopt een gracht als buffer voor het water.

DUCK DECOY "de Westpolder" located behind the farmsteads "Manneplaats" and "Nieuw Midhuizen" in the Westpolder. The decoy was established in 1896 by several residents of the Westpolder.
