Inleiding
ROLPAAL daterend uit de negentiende eeuw langs het Hunsingokanaal. Het object is iets ten westen van de monding van de Houwerzijlstervaart in het Hunsingokanaal gelegen en diende om de jaaglijn om de bocht te leiden. Het Hunsingokanaal, deels aangelegd in de achttiende eeuw en deels in de periode 1830-1853, zorgde voor een scheepvaart verbinding van Winsum via Ulrum naar Zoutkamp dat vroeger aan zee lag. De verschillende dorpen stonden door middel van kleinere vaarten in verbinding met het Hunsingokanaal. Zo had het dorp Houwerzijl via de Houwerzijlstervaart en het Hunsingokanaal een verbinding naar Zoutkamp.
Omschrijving
Negentiende eeuwse ROLPAAL bestaande uit een ronde houten rolpaal met aan de boven- en onderkant een ijzeren beugel die door middel van een ijzeren schroef bevestigd is aan een staand gedeelte. Staand gedeelte is geheel van hout; vierkant basement en middenstuk; beëindiging door vierkante kroonlijst.
Waardering
Negentiende eeuwse rolpaal van algemeen cultuurhistorisch belang:
- als relict van de trekscheepvaart in Groningen

Introduction
ROLL-PAIR dating from the nineteenth century along the Hunsingokanaal. The object is situated slightly to the west of the confluence of the Houwerzijlstervaart in the Hunsingokanaal and was used to guide the tow line around the bend. The Hunsingokanaal, partly constructed in the eighteenth century and partly in the period 1830-1853, provided a shipping connection from Winsum via Ulrum to Zoutkamp which formerly lay by the sea. The various villages were connected by means of smaller waterways to the Hunsingokanaal. For example, the village of Houwerzijl had a connection via the Houwerzijlstervaart and the Hunsingokanaal to Zoutkamp.
Description
Nineteenth century ROLL-PAIR consisting of a round wooden roll pole with on top and bottom an iron bracket which is fixed by means of an iron screw to a standing part. Standing part is entirely of wood; square base and central section; finished with square cornice.
