Inleiding
Voormalig STATIONSGEBOUW met aangebouwde GOEDERENBERGPLAATS, volgens de bouwtekening ontworpen in 1922 tijdens de aanleg van de lokale spoorlijn Zoutkamp - Winsum. In totaal zijn er vijf identieke stationsgebouwen aan deze lijn neergezet, waarvan die in Ulrum, Leens en Zoutkamp er nog staan. Die van Ulrum verkeert nog in de meest gave staat en wordt als enig exemplaar beschermd. Het pand, dat is opgetrokken in een aan het Rationalisme verwante stijl, ligt aan de Spoorstraat aan het eind van de Stationsweg. De voor-, de westzijde en een deel van de achterzijde van het gebouw zijn bestraat in blokpatroon met granieten keitjes en rode klinkers. De perronzijde is veranderd in een grasveld. Het pand is nu als woonhuis in gebruik.
Omschrijving
STATIONSGEBOUW met gevels van wit pleisterwerk op grijs gepleisterde plint. Het twee bouwlagen hoge pand heeft een samengesteld dak, gedekt met een grijze Hollandse pan, drie bakstenen schoorstenen op de nok en een rechthoekige goot. In zowel het noordelijke als het westelijke dakvlak bevindt zich een dakkapel. De topgevels worden gesierd door twee verspringende rollagen van gesinterde baksteen langs de dakrand, en strakke windveren. Aan de oostgevel is een goederenbergplaats aangebouwd, één bouwlaag hoog onder een schilddak.
De zuidgevel van het gebouw heeft twee risalerende gevels en verticale houten venters van verschillende grootte met schuin aflopende gepleisterde onderdorpels. De entree tot het station bevindt zich in het rechter zijrisaliet in een voorportaal met een dubbele houten deur met twee deurlichten. Het portaal heeft een plat dak en heeft twee afgesnoten hoeken en siermetselwerk bovenin. De toegang tot het woongedeelte bevindt zich tussen de twee risalerende gevels in, die worden verbonden door een balkon met een opengewerkt houten hekje. De houten toegangsdeur met deurlicht bevindt zich in de oostgevel van het linker risaliet.
De westgevel heeft drie verticale vensters. De noordgevel (perrongevel) heeft een risalerende gevel met erker waarop een balkon met houten hek tussen lage gepleisterde zijmuren. De erker heeft een uit vijf vensters bestaande raampartij en in de rechter zijkant een deur (niet origineel) met bovenlicht en in de linker een venster. Boven het balkon bevinden zich openslaande deuren met bovenlicht met driehoeksvormige roedenverdeling en aan weerszijden een verticaal venster. Twee identieke deuren met zijvensters verleenden op de begane grond toegang tot het perron. Boven de beide deuren bevinden zich twee tweeruitsvensters van elkaar gescheiden door een tegeltableau met daarin het woord "ULRUM". Bovenin de topgevel van het risaliet drie tweeruits vensters.
De aan de oostgevel aangebouwde GOEDERENBERGPLAATS heeft in de zuidgevel een garagedeur en in de noordgevel is de oorspronkelijke hoge houten deur vervangen door een deur met venster ernaast. De oostgevel van de bergplaats heeft nog drie oorspronkelijke vensters.

Former STATION BUILDING with attached GOODS SHED, according to the building drawing designed in 1922 during the construction of the local railway line Zoutkamp - Winsum. In total five identical station buildings were erected on this line, of which those in Ulrum, Leens and Zoutkamp still stand. The one in Ulrum remains in the best condition and is protected as the only example. The building, which was constructed in a style related to Rationalism, stands on the Spoorstraat at the end of the Stationsweg. The front, the west side and part of the rear of the building are paved in block pattern with granite setts and red clinker bricks. The platform side has been changed into a grass field. The building is now in use as a dwelling.
Description
STATION BUILDING with facades of white plasterwork on grey plastered plinth. The two-storey building has a composite roof, covered with grey Dutch roof tiles, three brick chimneys on the ridge and a rectangular gutter. In both the northern and western roof planes there is a roof dormer. The gable facades are adorned with two offset rollwork courses of sintered brick along the roof edge, and taut wind braces. To the east facade a goods shed is attached, one storey high under a hipped roof.
The south facade of the building has two projecting gables and vertical wooden ventilation louvres of varying size with sloping plastered sills. The entrance to the station is located in the right side risalit in a vestibule with a double wooden door with two door lights. The vestibule has a flat roof and has two cut-off corners and decorative brickwork above. The access to the residential section is located between the two projecting gables, which are connected by a balcony with an open wooden railing. The wooden entrance door with door light is located in the east facade of the left risalit.
The west facade has three vertical windows. The north facade (platform facade) has a projecting gable with a bay from which a balcony with wooden railing extends between low plastered side walls. The bay has a window arrangement consisting of five windows and on the right side a door (not original) with fanlight and on the left a window. Above the balcony are double doors with fanlight with triangular glazing bars and on either side a vertical window. Two identical doors with side windows provided ground floor access to the platform. Above both doors are two two-light windows separated by a tile tableau with the word "ULRUM" in it. At the top of the gable of the risalit are three two-light windows.
The GOODS SHED attached to the east facade has a garage door in the south facade and in the north facade the original high wooden door has been replaced by a door with window beside it. The east facade of the shed still has three original windows.
