Inleiding
Tabaksschuur, volgens het laagwandige, driebeukige type, behorend bij de boerderij Rodenstein (Kersweg 28). De schuur vormt met de boerderij, de muur aan de Kersweg en de gave omgeving een historische eenheid. In de schuur werden de op de Utrechtse Heuvelrug geteelde tabaksbladeren te drogen gehangen. De tabakscultuur, met bijbehorende droogschuren is kenmerkend voor dit gebied. Een gevelsteen boven het hooiluikgeeft het jaartal 1808 aan alsmede de naam H.V. Steegh, tabaksplanter te Amerongen. De gevel is in 1942 met ongeveer drie meter ingekort ten behoeve van een grotere inrit van de boerderij.
Omschrijving
De evenwijdig aan de Kersweg gelegen TABAKSSCHUUR met tuinmuur is op een langwerpige rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken en telt éénbouwlaag onder een zadeldak, gedekt met rode Hollandse pannen.
De lengte van de schuur bedraagt ongeveer veertig meter (oorspronkelijk ca. 43 meter) bij een breedte van ca. 7 meter.
De in 1942 ingekorte en oorspronkelijk in hout uitgevoerde oostelijke topgevel is opgetrokken uit baksteen en bevat in het midden een dubbele houten openslaande deur onder een betonnen latei. Links ernaast bevindt zich een kleine deur onder een latei; op zolderniveau is een zolderluik aangebracht onder een betonnen latei met erboven een gevelsteen met het jaartal 1808 en de naam van de opdrachtgever H.V. Steegh. De gevel is voorzien van muurankers.
De rechterzijgevel is van hout en bestaat uit verticale gepotdekselde delen die deels kunnen worden opengeklapt. Aan de noordwestzijde van deze gevel bevindt zich, ter afscheiding van de Kersweg, een bakstenen muur met op regelmatige afstand penanten. De muur is afgedekt met een ezelsrug. De linkerzijgevel is van baksteen en bevat een openslaande deur onder deels opgelicht dak in het midden en een kleinere deur aan de westzijde.
De westelijke topgevel is in baksteen opgestrokken en heeft links een getoogde deur en rechts een vensteropening, die met planken is dichtgezet. In de verdieping bevindt zich een venster. De gevel is afgwerkt met een rollaag.
Het interieur is grotendeels oorspronkelijk en bevat genummerde gebinten in negen (oorspronkelijk 10) travëen met een onderlinge afstand van vier meter. Ertussen zijn hanken bevestigd waaraan oorspronkelijk de tabaksbladeren te drogen hingen.
Waardering
De tabaksschuur met tuinmuur is van cultuurhistorische waarde als overblijfsel van de tabakscultuur op de Utrechtse Heuvelrug; het gebouw is voorts van architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een laagwandige driebeukige tabaksschuur, een exemplarisch voorbeeld van het Amerongse type. Tevens is het van ensemblewaarde in relatie tot de boerderij `Rodenstein', de achter de muur gelegen tuin en de ligging in de landelijke omgeving.

Description
The TOBACCO DRYING SHED with garden wall, situated parallel to the Kersweg, is erected on an elongated rectangular plan and comprises one storey under a gabled roof, covered with red Dutch tiles.
The length of the shed is approximately forty metres (originally approximately 43 metres) with a width of approximately 7 metres.
The eastern gabled end shortened in 1942 and originally built in wood is built of brick and contains in the middle a double wooden double door under a concrete lintel. To the left of it is a small door under a lintel; at loft level a loft hatch is installed under a concrete lintel with above it a stone panel with the year 1808 and the name of the client H.V. The interior is largely original and contains numbered roof trusses in nine (originally 10) bays with a mutual distance of four metres. Between them hooks are fixed from which originally the tobacco leaves were hung to dry.

The tobacco drying shed with garden wall is of cultural-historical value as a remnant of tobacco cultivation on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug; the building is furthermore of architectural-historical value as an example of a low-walled three-aisled tobacco drying shed, an exemplary example of the Amerongen type. It is also of ensemble value in relation to the farmstead 'Rodenstein', the garden located behind the wall and the location in the rural surroundings.
