Inleiding

Introduction

This villa 'Vredehoeve' built in 1884 originally belonged to the now vanished country estate Boschoord and was intended for the steward of this estate. The exterior of the villa is executed in eclectic style with chalet style elements and neorenaissence detailing.

The villa is reached via a semi-circular driveway. In front of the house is a simple and somewhat undulating garden with pond, which is important in relation to the house.

Description

A detached VILLA situated at some distance from the road of mainly one-and-a-half storeys and partly cellared on an approximately rectangular plan, under a compound arched roof covered with slates, with gabled roof and hipped roof, the hips of which project. These rest on decorated bracing constructions. In the roof shield at the front two small roof dormers are placed. The ridge ends are provided with finials. Below the roof gutter is a frieze of half-timbering with studs and cross beams. In the gable end of the rear and left facade this frieze is continued with decorative brickwork. The facades built of brickwork are provided with a hardstone plinth, speckle layers and band courses. The most common type of window has a sash window and is provided with an arched relieving arch and arch drums with decorative brickwork.

The front or north facade has an asymmetrical arrangement of three window bays. On the left is a gabled end section of two storeys which at the top is provided with wind braces resting on two coupled struts. These are connected to each other or to the wall by means of a tie rod. The roof shields step forward in tiers and has at the top been given a diagonally placed roof cap crowned with a finial. The facade has a rectangular bay positioned in the centre over two storeys. In the first storey there is a three-light window with side lights. This is decorated with corner pilasters and carved studs with capital terminations. Above the window is a frieze with relieving arch and stylised corner pilasters. Above the relieving arch a projecting cornice is applied. At the top of the bay an oeil-de-boeuf is placed. To the right of the bay is the entrance section with gable roof. The gable roof is, as far as construction is concerned, the same as the gable end described above. The entrance is provided with a double, richly decorated door with fanlight reached via a hardstone three-step flight of stairs. Above the door an arched relieving arch with arch field is mortared. To the right of the entrance section is a now sealed veranda under lean-to roof.

The rear facade has on the left a gabled end section with at the top wind braces on bracing constructions. On the ridge end a diagonally placed roof cap with finial is set. In front of the gable end is a now sealed wooden veranda on hardstone plinth. To the right of this the facade steps back and has an irregular window arrangement including round-arched windows and a later mortared kitchen window. In the corner with the gable end a rear entrance under awning construction is placed.

The right side facade has on the left a gabled end section with slight projection under gabled roof with half-hipped end and wind braces. The gable end is two window bays wide with on the right a former service entrance to the kitchen.

The left side facade is entirely blank except for one window.

The interior possesses no elements which warrant protection.

Valuation

The villa is of architectural historical value as an example of a building style and because of the detailing in the exterior, as well as of cultural historical value because of the former function. Furthermore of ensemble value as part of the Stichtse Lustwarande.
