Inleiding
SCHUTSLUIS "Oosterdijkhornerverlaat" gelegen in het zuidelijke einde van het Westerwijtwerdermaar. Het oudste deel, de sluiskolk met stenen zijmuren, dateert van 1839. De afmetingen zijn gelijk aan het verlaat dat oorspronkelijk in 1703, eveneens voor rekening van het Winsumer- en Schaphalsterzijlvest is aangelegd. De schutsluis had en heeft ten doel de boezems van het Winsumer- en Schaphalsterzijlvest en het Zijlvest der Drie Delfzijlen te scheiden en doorvaart te verlenen aan de scheepvaart. Deze zijlvesten vallen sinds respectievelijk 1856 en 1872 onder het waterschap Hunsingo en het waterschap Fivelingo en sinds 1995 en 1986 onder het waterschap Noorderzijlvest en het waterschap Eemszijlvest. In 1928 zijn de beide sluishoofden met de houten deuren gesloopt en is in plaats ervan aan beide uiteinden van de sluis een hefinstallatie voor een ijzeren schuif gemaakt. In de zomer van 1986 zijn beide hefinstallaties geelektrificeerd: de hijswerken zijn voorzien van een electromotor, en in de westelijke berm is een bedieningshuisje geplaatst. Omschrijving
Schutsluis bestaande uit een schutkolk met aan de noord- en zuidzijde een beweegbare schuif. De muren van de schutkolk zijn bekleed met bruine baksteen, de sluishoofden zijn opgemetseld in roodbruine baksteen. Op de sluishoofden twee opengewerkte ijzeren pilonen verbonden door een verbindingsbrug met een buisstalen leuning. Onder de verbindingsbruggen hangen aan kettingen de ijzeren schuiven, die na neerlaten precies in de sluishoofden passen. Aan de buitenzijde van de westelijke pilonen staat een afgesloten bewegingsinrichting met electromotor (niet origineel). De walbeschoeiing ten zuiden van de schutsluis is aan de westkant uitgevoerd in beton ter lengte van 22,75 m (1884) en aan de oostkant in gewapend beton ter lengte van 21,50 m (1928, de fundering is van 1884).

SHIP LOCK "Oosterdijkhornerverlaat" located at the southern end of the Westerwijtwerdermaar. The oldest part, the lock chamber with stone side walls, dates from 1839. Description
Ship lock consisting of a lock chamber with on the north and south side a moveable sluice gate. The walls of the lock chamber are faced with brown brick, the lock gates are constructed in reddish-brown brick. On the lock gates two openwork iron pylons connected by a connecting bridge with a tubular steel railing. Below the connecting bridges hang on chains the iron sluice gates, which after lowering fit precisely in the lock gates. On the outside of the western pylons stands a sealed motion mechanism with electric motor (not original). The wall facing south of the ship lock is executed on the west side in concrete for a length of 22.75 m (1884) and on the east side in reinforced concrete for a length of 21.50 m (1928, the foundation dates from 1884).
