Inleiding
Tijdens een bezoek aan de Verenigde Staten raakte P.D. Baron van Pallandt onder de indruk van het werk van de architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Teruggekeerd in Nederland gaf hij in 1929 aan ir H. Sangster de opdracht om in Wrightiaanse stijl een LANDHUIS te ontwerpen. Het architectonische ontwerp van het huis "Eerder Es" is sterk verbonden met het omringende landschap. Het huis ligt aan de rand van de Eerder es in het landelijk buitengebied van Ommen, westelijk van kasteel Eerde. De door Leonard Springer ontworpen tuin vloeit over in het omringende landschap. Het huis is, van de Eerder es en van het landgoed Eerde af, naar het zuiden (beekdal) georienteerd.
Het interieur is gemoderniseerd en aan de achterzijde hebben in de jaren zeventig enkele verbouwingen plaatsgevonden die het karakter en evenwicht van het ontwerp echter niet hebben aangetast.
Omschrijving
Eén en deels twee bouwlagen tellend landhuis, vanuit een samengestelde plattegrond opgetrokken in rode handgevormde baksteen. Het samengestelde schilddak steekt ver over en is gedekt met rode Friese pannen. De gevels zijn voorzien van smalle vensters met stalen kozijnen en terrasdeuren. Het pand bestaat uit een langgerekt hoofdvolume met aan de voorzijde (N) op de westelijke hoek een risalerend bouwdeel. Iets ten oosten van het midden is het hoofdvolume hoger opgetrokken onder een schilddak met T-vormige noklijn; de gevel onder de dakaanzet is voorzien van bandvensters. Haaks op de hoofdvorm bevindt zich op de oosthoek en halverwege de voorgevel een overdekte entree onder steekkappen, steunend op gemetselde kolommen met als kapiteel vierkante houten lantaarns. Tussen de beide entrees en tussen de tweede entree en het risalerende bouwdeel heeft de gevel zeven, respectievelijk negen vensters. Aan de achterzijde (Z) op een kwart en het derde kwart twee overdekte veranda's onder steekkappen steunend op gemetselde kolommen. Daartussen grote dubbele terrasdeuren.

Landhuis van algemeen cultuur-, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang:

Introduction
During a visit to the United States P.D. Baron van Pallandt was impressed by the work of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Upon returning to the Netherlands he gave ir H. Sangster the commission in 1929 to design a COUNTRY HOUSE in Wrightian style. The architectural design of the house "Eerder Es" is strongly connected with the surrounding landscape. The house is situated at the edge of the Eerder es in the rural countryside of Ommen, west of castle Eerde. The garden designed by Leonard Springer flows into the surrounding landscape. The house is oriented from the Eerder es and from the Eerde estate towards the south (valley).
The interior has been modernised and some alterations took place at the rear in the seventies which however have not affected the character and balance of the design.
Description
One and partly two-storey country house, constructed from a complex ground plan in red hand-formed brick. The complex hipped roof projects far and is covered with red Frisian tiles. The facades are provided with narrow windows with steel frames and terrace doors. The building consists of an elongated main volume with on the front (N) at the western corner a projecting section. Slightly east of the centre the main volume is built higher under a hipped roof with T-shaped ridge line; the facade below the roof line is provided with band windows. At right angles to the main form there is at the east corner and halfway along the front facade a covered entrance under butterfly roofs, resting on brick columns with square wooden lanterns as capitals. Between the two entrances and between the second entrance and the projecting section the facade has seven and nine windows respectively. On the rear (S) at one quarter and three quarters two covered verandas under butterfly roofs resting on brick columns. Between them large double terrace doors.

Country house of general cultural, architectural-historical and urban planning importance:
