Inleiding
In de zuidoostelijke punt van het tuindorp Nieuwendam gelegendubbele christelijke SCHOOL voor Gewoon Lager Onderwijs inkubistisch-expressionistische trant. De aanbesteding vond plaatsop 6 april 1925, de nummering op 23 november 1926. Debouwtekeningen zijn afkomstig van de gemeentelijke dienstPublieke Werken.
NB.
Thans bevindt zich op nr. 2 de oefenlocatie van de drumband'Marching at Amsterdam' en op nr. 4, vanaf 1979, eenslagersvakschool van de SVO.
Omschrijving
Op een samengestelde rechthoekige plattegrond, uit rodebaksteen opgetrokken school bestaande uit verschillendekubische bouwvolumes, voorzien van in- en uitspringendemuurvlakken, onder platte daken met rechte gevelbeeindiging.
Het gebouw bestaat in feite uit een langgerekt lagermiddendeel tussen twee verticale dwarsvleugels met verspringende en in hoogte verschillende bouwmassa's, alwaar de ingangspartijen. Boven beide ingangspartijen bakstenen schoorstenen voorzien van natuurstenen luifels. Sommige bouwvolumes zijn eveneens voorzien van sterk uitkragende luifels. De leslokalen zijn aan de achterzijde (Z) van het gebouw gelegen; aan de voorzijde (N) bevinden zich de trappenhuizen en de gangen. Het middendeel en het linkerdwarsvolume (W) zijn op de verdieping voorzien van een in Amsterdamse School-stijlgedetailleerde aaneengesloten reeks kleine vensters. Op debeganegrond wordt de vensterrij onderbroken door een reeks vanvijf gekoppelde, verticaal geplaatste vensters. Rechterdwarsvolume (O) voorzien van groot verticaal geleedvenster en kleiner kruiskozijn boven de ingang. Linkerzijgevel(W) voorzien van smal, laddervormig geleed venster en ietsbreder, doch ook verticaal geleed venster in rechterzijgevel(O). De achtergevel waaraan de leslokalen zijn gelegen isvoorzien van regelmatig in de gevel geplaatste negenruits-vensters.
De gevels zijn op de hoeken voorzien van siermetselwerk.
Waardering
Voormalige dubbelschool in Tuindorp Nieuwendam uitgevoerd in kubistisch-expressionistische trant van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde alsmede vantypologisch belang als representatief voorbeeld van schoolarchitectuur in de jaren '20 door de toenmalige gemeentelijke dienst PubliekeWerken.

Description
On a composite rectangular ground plan, constructed in red brick, school consisting of various cubic building volumes, furnished with protruding and recessed wall planes, under flat roofs with straight gable termination.
The building essentially consists of an elongated lower central section between two vertical transverse wings with offset and different height building masses, where the entrance areas are located. Above both entrance areas brick chimneys provided with natural stone eaves. Some building volumes are also provided with strongly cantilevered eaves. The classrooms are located on the rear side (S) of the building; on the front side (N) are the staircases and the corridors. The central section and the left transverse volume (W) are furnished on the upper floor with a connected series of small windows detailed in Amsterdam School style. On the ground floor the window row is interrupted by a series of five coupled, vertically placed windows. Right transverse volume (E) provided with a large vertical articulated window and smaller cross window above the entrance. Left gable wall (W) provided with a narrow, ladder-form articulated window and a slightly wider, yet also vertically articulated window in the right gable wall (E). The rear facade where the classrooms are located is furnished with regularly placed nine-pane windows in the facade.
The facades are provided with decorative brickwork at the corners.
Appraisal
Former double school in Garden Village Nieuwendam executed in cubist-expressionist manner of general importance for its architectural and cultural-historical value as well as of typological importance as a representative example of school architecture in the 1920s by the then municipal Department of Public Works.
