Inleiding
Bibliotheek van het voormalige museum van het Zeeuws Genootschap der Wetenschappen, tegenwoordig jeugdhonk, in 1889 gebouwd naar ontwerp van de architect J.A. Frederiks. Het rechthoekige gebouw is in eclectische stijl uitgevoerd.
Omschrijving
Rechthoekig pand met begane grond en kapverdieping met zadeldak gedekt met gesmoorde pannen. Opgetrokken uit roodbruine baksteen en natuurstenen banden/speklagen, kraagstenen, gevelstenen en deklijsten; banden/speklagen in noordgevel in gele steen.
De zuidgevel (langsgevel) is in 8 traveeën verdeeld d.m.v. (hoek)lisenen; blinde gevel; boogfries onder de kroonlijst.
De westgevel (tuitgevel) is d.m.v. (hoek)lisenen in 3 traveeën verdeeld. In middelste travee ingangspartij met dubbele houten paneeldeur in een rondboogvormige nis; natuurstenen boogtrommel met opschrift "Bibliotheek".
Boogfries met aan uiteinden natuurstenen consoles; gevelstenen met jaartal. Tuitgevel met reeks verdiepte muurvelden; daarboven cordonlijst en geveltop, in midden geaccentueerd door vooruitspringend, gemetseld, verticaal element; gevel afgesloten met deklijsten. Oostzijde grenst aan buurpand.
Noordgevel vrijwel identiek aan zuidgevel, maar hier reeks nieuwe vensters en nieuwe deur ingezet. Het interieur is vernieuwd; originele spantconstructie met stalen trekstangen gedeeltelijk zichtbaar.

Rectangular building with ground floor and attic storey with gabled roof covered with damped tiles. Built up in red-brown brick and natural stone bands/courses, corbels, facade stones and cornices; bands/courses in north facade in yellow stone.
The south facade (long facade) is divided into 8 bays by means of (corner) pilasters; blind facade; arch frieze beneath the cornice.
The west facade (spout gable) is divided by means of (corner) pilasters into 3 bays. In middle bay entrance section with double wooden panel door in a round-arch-shaped recess; natural stone arch voussoir with inscription "Bibliotheek".
Arch frieze with natural stone brackets at ends; facade stones with year date. Spout gable with series of recessed wall panels; above it string course and gable top, in centre accentuated by projecting, built, vertical element; facade concluded with cornices. East side adjoins neighbouring building.
North facade almost identical to south facade, but here series of new windows and new door inserted. The interior is renewed; original truss structure with steel tie-rods partially visible.
