Inleiding
Deze TOREN werd in 1890 voor een tweeledige functie gebouwd. Graaf Bentinck, de toenmalige bewoner van kasteel Weldam wilde een uitkijktoren bouwen op het hoogste punt van zijn terrein, de Herikerberg. Daar de Herikerberg in die tijd reeds een driehoekspunt van het Hoofddriehoeksnet was, leidde het voornemen van de graaf tot contact tussen hem en de Dienst Rijksdriehoeksmeting. De toren zou zowel door de graaf als voor de driehoeksmeting gebruikt worden. Op 29 maart 1890 werd door de graven Willem en Frederik Bentick, de zonen van graaf Bentinck, de eerste steen voor de toren gelegd. De toren die vroeger vrij uitzicht had over het hele gebied is nu omgeven door bomen. Enkele jaren gelden is hij verbouwd tot woning en atelier.
Omschrijving
Vierkante toren, opgetrokken in gele machinale baksteen die door natuurstenen banden in drie bouwlagen wordt gedeeld. Rondom zijn muurankers bevestigd. De toren is afgedekt met een iets overkragend plat dak. De entree, in de zuid-west gevel, bestaat uit een deur onder een rondboog met aanzet- en sluitstenen. Daarnaast is een gedenksteen aangebracht met de tekst :"De eerste steen gelegd 29 maart 1890 door de graven Willem en Frederik Bentinck".
Deze gevelzijde is verder voorzien van een rondlicht met een vierpas en in het bovenste gevelvlak een raam met een luik in de kleuren van Weldam. In verschillende gevelzijden zijn voor de rest vensters met luiken en rondlichten geplaatst.

Introduction
This TOWER was built in 1890 for a two-fold purpose. Count Bentinck, the then resident of Weldam castle, wished to build an observation tower on the highest point of his grounds, the Herikerberg. As the Herikerberg at that time was already a triangle point of the Principal Triangulation Network, the count's intention led to contact between him and the Trigonometric Survey Service. The tower would be used both by the count and for the triangulation survey. On 29 March 1890 the first stone for the tower was laid by the counts Willem and Frederik Bentinck, the sons of count Bentinck. The tower which formerly had a free view over the entire area is now surrounded by trees. Some years ago it was converted into a residence and studio.
Description
Square tower, built in yellow machine-made brick which is divided by natural stone bands into three storeys. Ornamental wall anchors are attached all around. The tower is covered with a slightly projecting flat roof. The entrance, in the south-west gable, consists of a door under a round arch with voussoirs and keystones. Beside it is a commemorative stone with the text: "First stone laid 29 March 1890 by the counts Willem and Frederik Bentinck".
This gable side is further provided with a round light with a quatrefoil and in the upper gable area a window with a shutter in the Weldam colours. In various gable sides windows with shutters and round lights are placed.
Valuation
Tower of cultural and architectural-historical value because of:
- the former function for the Trigonometric Survey Service and as an observation tower for the Weldam estate
