Onderdeel 60:
Inleiding
De geheel ommuurde MOESTUIN van het Huis Twickel is in 1891 aangelegd naar een ontwerp van de Duitse landschapsarchitect C.E.A. Petzold. Op het terrein drie half verzonken KASSEN (pits) uit 1891, en een IRONHOUSE met aangebouwde kleine ZAAIKAS uit 1911 van de firma Messenger & Co. uit Leicestershire. De bij het ironhouse behorende stookkelder is in de jaren zestig van deze eeuw dichtgestort. De kachel van de firma Messenger & Co. wordt op Twickel bewaard. Tenslotte staat op het terrein een ANJERKAS uit 1915. De schuur in de westelijke muur van de moestuin is verbouwd tot woonhuis en voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang. De moestuin ligt op de hoek van de Bornsestraat en de Twickelerlaan. Het terrein is geheel omheind door een hoge (deels vernieuwde) gemetselde muur van bruine baksteen met ezelsrug en steunberen. Een (nieuw) hek met smeedijzeren decoraties tussen hekpijlers met natuurstenen sierbanden vormt vanaf de Twickelerlaan de hoofdingang tot de moestuin. Het oorspronkelijke lanenstelsel van de moestuin is nog grotendeels intact. Vanaf de hoofdentree loopt een rechte door fruitbomen geflankeerde laan naar een hek in de westelijke tuinmuur. Halverwege wordt deze laan doorkruist door een noord-zuid as met een kleine vijverpartij. De kassen staan ten zuiden van de oost-west as.
Omschrijving
Drie identieke deels verzonken KASSEN met wanden van blokken zandsteen. De met glas ingevulde sheddaken boven de kassen zijn op het zuiden georiënteerd. In de oostgevels houten deuren met vierruits vensters.
Waardering
Drie verzonken kassen van architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege:
- de kenmerkende typologie
- de ruimtelijk-functionele samenhang met de overige complexonderdelen

Introduction
The completely walled KITCHEN GARDEN of Huis Twickel was laid out in 1891 to a design by German landscape architect C.E.A. Petzold. On the site three half-sunken GLASSHOUSES (pits) from 1891, and an IRONHOUSE with attached small SEED HOUSE from 1911 by the firm Messenger & Co. from Leicestershire. The heating cellar belonging to the ironhouse was filled in during the 1960s. The heating apparatus by the firm Messenger & Co. is preserved at Twickel. Finally, on the site stands a CARNATION HOUSE from 1915. The shed in the western wall of the kitchen garden has been converted into a dwelling and is of subordinate importance for protection. The kitchen garden is located on the corner of the Bornsestraat and the Twickelerlaan. The site is completely enclosed by a high (partly renewed) masonry wall of brown brickwork with a cat's-back and buttresses. A (new) gate with wrought iron decorations between gate piers with natural stone decorative bands forms the main entrance to the kitchen garden from the Twickelerlaan. The original lane system of the kitchen garden is still largely intact. From the main entrance a straight lane flanked by fruit trees runs to a gate in the western garden wall. Halfway along this lane is crossed by a north-south axis with a small pond. The glasshouses stand to the south of the east-west axis.
Description
Three identical partly sunken GLASSHOUSES with walls of blocks of sandstone. The glass-filled shed roofs above the glasshouses are oriented to the south. In the east facades wooden doors with four-pane windows.
