Inleiding
Gebouwd rond 1910-1915 als dokterswoning in opdracht van de Maatschappij van Weldadigheid naar ontwerp van R. van der Woerd Hzn. uit Enschede. Het in Art Nouveau stijl gebouwde pand is karakteristiek voor het voorzieningenniveau binnen de Maatschappij. Het pand heeft inmiddels een uitbreiding gekregen in de vorm van een ondergeschikte platte aanbouw. De bescherming richt zich op het oorspronkelijke hoofdgebouw.
Omschrijving
Dokterswoning gebouwd op onregelmatige plattegrond en gedekt door een samengestelde kap met Tuile du Nord; pirons; dakkapel in voorste en linker dakschild (waarbij de zijkanten zijn bekleed met geglazuurde leipannen); uitkragende en eenvoudig geprofileerde goot op klossen; rechthoekige gietijzeren hemelwaterafvoeren. Gevelopbouw met plint; pleisterwerk; vensters met geprofileerde onderdorpels en kleine roedeverdeling in de bovenlichten; lateien met daarboven segmentboogvormig siermetselwerk in geglazuurde steen. De gevelvlakken van de afgeknotte topgevels zijn voorzien van verticale gerabatte houten betimmering waarin opgenomen een zoldervenster. Voorgevel met rechts een drievoudig samengesteld venster; midden een diepliggend portaal met hardstenen stoep en deur met zij- en bovenlichten; links een uitspringend erker met daarboven een gootlijst en een eenvoudig houten hekwerk voor het balkon. Het balkon is betreedbaar via schuifdeuren onder een breed bovenlicht. De rechterzijgevel bevat eveneens gekoppelde vensters, een portiek met hardstenen stoep en een deur met bovenlicht. Verdieping met twee gekoppelde vensters. Aan de rechterkant een uitspringend gedeelte onder plat waarin onder meer een deur met bovenlicht. De linkerzijgevel bevat enkele gekoppelde vensters op beide bouwlagen. De achtergevel bevat onder meer een serre op gemetselde basis en links daarvan een platte aanbouw waarin ondermeer een gekoppeld keldervenster met diefijzers. De afgeknotte topgevel boven de serre heeft onder meer twee gekoppelde vensters; links daarvan een platte aanbouw (mogelijk trappenhuis).

Dokterswoning van cultuurhistorisch, architectuurhistorisch en stedebouwkundig belang vanwege de relatie met de Maatschappij van Weldadigheid en het daarbij behorende hoge voorzieningenniveau, de vormgeving en de ligging in een uitzonderlijk waardevol dorpsgezicht.

Built around 1910-1915 as a doctor's residence on behalf of the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid (Society of Beneficence) to the design of R. van der Woerd Hzn. from Enschede. Description
Doctor's residence built on an irregular plan and covered by a composite roof truss with Tuile du Nord; roof hooks; roof dormer in front and left roof panel (whereby the sides are clad with glazed slate tiles); projecting and simply profiled gutter on blocks; rectangular cast-iron rainwater pipes. Facade construction with plinth; plasterwork; windows with profiled sills and small glazing bars in the fanlights; lintels with above segmental arch-shaped decorative brickwork in glazed stone. The facade surfaces of the truncated stepped gables are provided with vertical rebated wooden cladding in which incorporated a basement window. Front facade with on the right a triple assembled window; centre a recessed portico with hard stone step and door with side- and fanlights; on the left a projecting oriel with above a gutter moulding and simple wooden railing for the balcony. The balcony is accessible via sash doors under a wide fanlight. The right-side gable likewise contains coupled windows, a portico with hard stone step and a door with fanlight. First storey with two coupled windows. On the right side a projecting section under flat roof in which among others a door with fanlight. The left-side gable contains some coupled windows on both storeys. The rear gable contains among others a conservatory on mortared base and to its left a flat extension in which among others a coupled basement window with security bars. The truncated stepped gable above the conservatory has among others two coupled windows; to the left thereof a flat extension (possibly stairwell).
