Inleiding:
Met elementen van Eclecticisme in 1901 naar een ontwerp van architect J.H.C. Kröner in opdracht van het gemeentebestuur van Valkenburg aan de Geul gebouwd STADHUIS, POSTKANTOOR en WOONHUIS.
Het voormalig stadhuis bevond zich in het rechter gedeelte van het pand, het voormalig postkantoor in het middendeel en het woonhuis in het linker gedeelte.
Omschrijving:
De bouwmassa met het voormalig stadhuis heeft een in dwarsrichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met een schilddak met plat gedekt met tuiles du Nord pannen. Asymmetrische indeling frontgevel. Rechthoekige houten vensters en deur met rondboogvormige en segmentboogvormige bovenlichten met roedeverdeling. Hardstenen dorpelstenen. Waterlijsten. Entree in frontgevel met bordes met hardstenen balustrade en toegangstrap.
Hierboven in de tweede bouwlaag een balkon in mergel rustend op twee hardstenen kommen. Balkon eveneens met balustrade in mergel met hierop aan weerszijden een leeuw in natuursteen met het wapen van de stad in zijn klauwen. Dit geveldeel uitlopend in achtzijdig torentje met rondboogvormige Louvreluiken en een puntdak gedekt met leien en bekroond met een valk. In dit torentje een uurwerk met vierkanten wijzerplaat. Middendeel rechterzijgevel uitlopend in een topgevelachtig geveldeel met hierin vier vensters. Smeedijzeren muurankers.
Bouwmassa met voormalig postkantoor: asymmetrische gevelindeling.
Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren met segmentboogvormige bovenlichten met roedeverdeling. Hardstenen dorpelstenen. Deur met hardstenen latei. Hierboven in de tweede bouwlaag klein balkonnetje met smeedijzeren leuning. Groot venster in linkerdeel frontgevel met tracering in mergel. Hieronder in mergel het embleem van de posterijen.
Bouwmassa met voormalig woonhuis: middendeel met entree in een erkervormige uitbouw met hierboven in de tweede bouwlaag een ronde erker met hierop in de derde bouwlaag een balkon met smeedijzeren leuning. Dit geveldeel uitlopend in een topgeveltje. Aan linkerzijde van het topgeveltje een kleine balustrade. Rechthoekige houten vensters en deuren met rondboogvormige bovenlichten deels met roedeverdeling.
De interieurindeling is in beperkte mate intact, overigens niet beschermenswaardig.
Waardering:
Het voormalig gemeentehuis met postkantoor en woonhuis is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een bestuurlijke en typologische ontwikkeling. Het object bezit architectuurhistorische waarden wegens het bijzondere belang voor de regionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, de esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp en de toepassing van mergel als bouwmateriaal.
Ensemblewaarde ontleent dit object aan zijn situering in het centrum van de kern Valkenburg aan de Geul en daarmee van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van dit stadje. Het object is tenslotte van algemeen belang op grond van de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de architectuurhistorische en typologische zeldzaamheid.

Building mass with former dwelling house: central section with entrance in an oriel-shaped extension with above it in the second storey a round oriel with above it in the third storey a balcony with wrought iron railing. This facade section terminating in a small gable. On the left side of the small gable a small balustrade. Rectangular wooden windows and doors with semi-circular fanlights partly with glazing bars.
The interior layout is to a limited extent intact, otherwise not worthy of protection.

The former town hall with post office and dwelling house is of cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of an administrative and typological development.
