Inleiding
Description
Introduction
The FARMHOUSE Kinnema sathe with undercellared cross-house from 1877 has a byre section of which the core dates from 1774. The front house is built in Eclectic style. The dwelling house is dated by a commemorative stone with the inscription: B.J. HANNEMA T.J. MEINSMA 1877; the barn by means of numeral anchors forming the year 1774. The business section of the farmhouse, in particular the hall and the so-called summer house, was rebuilt around 1877 and the barn in the first decade of the 20th century. The farmhouse lies outside the village centre to the west of the village, but originally lay at the foot of the village terp. The farmhouse has a concrete driveway and gate with the inscription Kinnema sathe. The farmhouse is partially surrounded by a moat with row planting; a garden layout is no longer recognisable. In the garden stands a possibly 18th-century base of a sundial, now serving as a pedestal for a small sculpture. Of the farm plantings, the red beech and the linden trees along the barn are the most striking elements. The farmhouse was initially a mixed enterprise with arable farming as the main activity. The stone staircase is twisted a quarter turn relative to the original situation. The exterior was partially renovated in 1989/1990: plastic frames and doors have been fitted. The outbuildings, including a former coach house, a secondary barn, a milking shed (1975), tool store and manure cellar (1988/'89) on the plot fall outside the protection by national government.
Description
The barn of the farmhouse has a rectangular ground plan and a shrinkage on the east side. The longitudinal gables are low and the short gables are built higher in brown bricks with dash-scoring in the joint with thatch-pattern jointing; the west gable in red pressed bricks. The roof tiles of the summer house and the connecting section between barn and dwelling house are partly covered with black glazed Lucas Ijsbrand tiles and non-ceramic quick-cover tiles. The barn is covered with corrugated sheets. In the side gable, at the height of the section with shrinkage at the location of the churn mill, two large windows and a side entrance, otherwise cast-iron, arched stable windows under a roll moulding. In the rear gable, among other things, a cast-iron rose window and a stable door. Under the roof overhang numeral anchors 1, 7, 7, 4. In the summer house three windows: two H-windows and a two-light window. The barn section is connected to the transversely placed front house by a connecting section. In the hall is an entrance and on the west side three windows and a door. The transversely placed front house has a rectangular ground plan and is built high due to the undercellaring. The gables are built up in brown bricks with cut-brick joint and on the front and side gables on a stone plinth. On the corners of the dwelling house corner pilasters with plastered mirror panels. The gables are finished at the top with a simple, moulded cornice. The dwelling house section under a hipped roof is covered with black glazed, improved Dutch tiles and has two chimneys with chimney breasts. In the front and side gables are basket-arched cellar windows under a course with cast-iron grilles fitted. All windows of the principal floor are basket-arched and have a plastered frame with a canopy. The front gable has a projecting central section, with two windows on either side, which continues in a built-in dormer window. On the corners of the central projection are six-eighths plastered columns on stone pedestals which are crowned with urns with cherub heads on the belly. The main entrance has a folding door in a recessed porch with curved walls. In the panel doors are cast-iron grilles with fruit motif. In front of the door a staircase with landing. Above the entrance a wooden balcony on wooden, carved consoles; the balustrade is of cast iron. The arched balcony door has two arched side lights. In both side gables two arched windows. On the rear of the dwelling house is a rear entrance to the milk cellar and a cast-iron rose window with coloured and cut glass.
The 19th-century interior of the farmhouse is partly original. In the stable is a small gate and a beam decorated with arches in the horse stable. The passage between the summer houses and the business section is tiled with white tiles. The room in the hall has, among other things, ceiling panelling, sash blinds in the window casings and a black marble chimney. Among the valuable interior components of the front house are, among other things, the stuccoed and marbled walls in the hall; on the wall at the staircase in a stuccoed relief with hunting trophies and a game bag and on the ceiling agricultural motifs (among other things, sickles). The right front room has, among other things, a fine stucco ceiling. The ceiling depicts the four seasons with putti and symbolism such as birds (spring), harvesting (autumn) and fire (winter). The room also has a natural stone fireplace mantel with a stuccoed chimney breast. The other front room has, among other things, wall panelling with round arches and pilasters. Evaluation The farmhouse with transversely placed front house, called Kinnema sathe from 1774/1877 is of general cultural-historical and architectural-historical value:
- because of the history of the farmhouse on the site, of which the oldest section dates from the 18th century,
- because of the visual completeness and the fine location, originally at the foot of the terp,
- because of the reasonable degree of aesthetic quality of the design,
- because of the architectural completeness of the interior,
- because of the high degree of significance owing to the richness, symbolism and completeness of the ornamentation, in particular of the 19th-century interior of the front house,
- because of the reasonable degree of completeness of the exterior.
