Inleiding
ZEVEN ARBEIDERSWONINGEN in een symmetrische straatwand, 1935-1936, onderdeel van het sociale woningbouwcomplex Boschpoort. Gebouwd in zakelijk expressionistische stijl naar een ontwerp van architect A.J.N. Boosten te Maastricht, in opdracht van de Bouwvereniging St.Servatius.
Gewapend betonconstructies van ingenieursbureau Henri Huydts te Maastricht, gebouwd door aannemer J. Laeven te Heerlen, onder toezicht van bouwmeester H. Reck.
De woningen werden in 1982 gerenoveerd en van een nieuwe achtergevelaanbouw en/of een nieuwe berging voorzien. Deze aan- en bijbouwen zijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving
Oostelijk in het complex Boschpoort gesitueerde reeks van zeven arbeiderswoningen (typen N2,N,O,N,N,N,N2) in een symmetrische straatwand. De N- en N2-typen hebben L-vormige plattegronden vanwege de keukenuitbouw van een laag onder plat aan de achtergevel en zijn tweegewijs gespiegeld. Het O-type heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond. De straatwand als geheel ligt in lengterichting ten opzichte van het Voedingskanaal. Alle woningtypen beschikken over twee bouwlagen met gedeeltelijke souterrain- en zolderverdiepingen.
De hoekpanden van het type N2 hebben asymmetrische zadeldaken in dwarsrichting, op de lange dakzijden voorzien van dakkapellen. De tussengelegen woningen van de type N en O zijn gedekt met zadeldaken in lengterichting en hebben korte nokschoorstenen. Alle daken zijn voorzien van betonpannen en luifelgoten.
De woningen hebben een trasraam, donker getinte bakstenen gevels in kettingverband. Betonnen venster- en deurlateien. Rollagen in de eerste bouwlaag. De overstekken van de hoekpanden steunen op betonconsoles.
Rechthoekige houten deuren met vierruits glaspaneel. Hoog onder de luifelgoot ingezette rechthoekige houten vensterkozijnen met verticale kozijngeleding. Op de begane grond identieke kozijnen waarvan de verticale geleding verwijderd is vanwege aluminium ventilatieschuiven.
Koperen onderdorpels. Rechthoekige, enigszins uitstulpende en verticaal gelede deurzijlichten. Rechthoekige, ongelede houten zijgevelvensters.
Rechthoekige houten vensters met dubbele verticale geleding in de achtergevels. De rechthoekige, dubbele houten terrasdeuren met vierruits roedeverdeling en tweeruits bovenlicht zijn aan het oog onttroken vanwege de nieuwe aangebouwde keukenruimten ofwel vervangen door nieuwe terrasdeuren zonder roedeverdeling.
Waardering
Het blok met zeven arbeiderswoningen is van cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door de bouwstijl, de betrokkenheid van architect Boosten en de esthetische kwaliteiten van zijn ontwerp.
Het blok is vanwege de situering verbonden met de ontwikkeling van de wijk Boschpoort en van betekenis voor het aanzien van de wijk. Het woningblok beschikt over een redelijke architectonische gaafheid en is van importantie in relatie tot de structurele en visuele gaafheid van de bebouwde omgeving. Description
Series of seven workers' dwellings (types N2,N,O,N,N,N,N2) situated in the eastern part of the Boschpoort complex in a symmetrical street facade. The N and N2 types have L-shaped floor plans due to the kitchen extension of one storey with flat roof at the rear facade and are mirrored in pairs. The O type has a rectangular floor plan. The street facade as a whole lies in longitudinal direction in relation to the Voedingskanaal. All dwelling types have two storeys with partial basement and attic storeys.
The corner buildings of type N2 have asymmetrical gabled roofs in transverse direction, provided with roof dormers on the long roof sides. The intermediate dwellings of type N and O are covered with gabled roofs in longitudinal direction and have short ridge chimneys. All roofs are provided with concrete tiles and soffit gutters.
