Inleiding

HERENHUIS in de gesloten straatwand van de Lage Kanaaldijk, teruggerooid ten opzichte van de naburige straatwand. Gebouwd omstreeks 1905, in een door de chaletstijl beïnvloede trant.

Omschrijving

Het herenhuis heeft een L-vormige plattegrond. Hoofdvolume van tweebouwlagen in lengterichting met souterrain- en zolderverdieping onder asymmetrisch zadeldak met insteekkap. Uitbouw van twee lagen onder plat dwars op de achtergevel.

Asymmetrische, over drie assen risalerende voorgevel in lichtrode baksteen, gemetseld in kruisverband. Gepleisterde speklagen plus aanzetstenen, gestucte sluitstenen in diamantkopvorm, venster- en deurvulstukken met geelrood siermetselwerk in een tweetal blokverbanden. Tegen het risalerende geveldeel is in de eerste bouwlaag een grote houten terrasgalerij met balkon geplaatst, steunend op zes houten kolommen en een bakstenen terrasmuur met hardstenen afdekking, gestucte balusters en hardstenen traptreden. Tussen de houten kolommen bevinden zich rondbogen met opengewerkte zwikken in houtsnijwerk. Het balkon is voorzien van een eenvoudige nieuwe houten balustrade. In de topgevel bevindt zich een kleiner houten balkon op consoles en een geornamenteerde houten balustrade. Hardstenen deurtraptreden, hardstenen dorpels doorlopend in de terrasbalustrade. Gestucte plinten, deels met imitatierustica en -voegen. Gestucte gevellijst tussen de eerste en de tweede bouwlaag.

Houten paneeldeur met smeedrooster, voorzien van rozetten en het initiaal "D" en bovenlicht met kleine roedeverdeling.

Dubbele, segmentboogvormige houten terrasdeuren met 18-ruits roedeverdeling in het bovenlicht, geflankeerd door twee rondboogvormige houten zijlichten met 9-ruits bovenlichten.

In de tweede bouwlaag een rechthoekige houten balkondeur met 18-ruits bovenlicht, geflankeerd door rechthoekige houten zijvensters met 9-ruits bovenlichten. In de topgevel een rechthoekige, dubbele houten balkondeur met vijftienruits bovenlicht.

Asymmetrisch zadeldak met muldenpannen. Bakgoot op klossen. Insteekkap en luifelgoot op aanzienlijke consoles, chaletoverstek, naald en nokpion, opengewerkt houtsnijwerk. Dakkapel op voorste dakvlak met ingesnoerde spits, voorzien van nokpion en leien in Maasdekking. Twee schoorstenen. De insteekkap en de luifelgoot steunen op grote houten consoles. De topgevel is voorzien van een chaletoverstek met opengewerkt houtsnijwerk, naald en nokpion. Dakkapel op achterdakvlak.

Blinde, grauwbruine bakstenen zijgevel, geheel wit gepleisterde achtergevels. Hierin segmentboogvormige houten venster- en deurkozijnen met verschillende geledingsvormen. Naast de buitendeur van de keuken is een nieuw segmentboogvormig venster aangebracht.

De achtertuin wordt omgeven door een deels wit gesausde bakstenen muur met steunberen.

In het INTERIEUR, waarvan de indeling intact is, zijn onder meer van belang de deels met mozaïek ingelegde terrazzo-vloeren, de houten kamervloeren, de stucrozetten en kooflijsten, de paneeldeuren, de dubbele houten schuifdeuren tussen woonkamer en salon, het olmenhouten trappenhuis met houten balustrade en handlijst, een zwartmarmeren haardpartij op de eerste verdieping, de houten gangboog met composietkapitelen, cannelures en diamantkoppen.

Waardering

Het herenhuis is van cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling. Het pand is vanwege de bouwstijl, de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteit, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik, de ornamentiek en de bijzondere samenhang tussen ex- en interieur van zeer grote waarde.
