Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
RAILWAY BRIDGE in the railway line Maastricht-Hasselt, 1854-1856, according to a design by J.A. Kool, retired Colonel of Engineers. In 1975 the brick bridge abutments were partly rendered and provided on either side with a new concrete structure with cycle tunnels. These cycle tunnels are excluded from protection.
Description
Railway bridge resting on two, executed in red brick and subsequently partly rendered bridge abutments in a slope, each on either side provided with two, executed in brick and marl five-square tower-like pilasters with hardstone moulded profiles. The brick walls are topped by a decorative cornice in marl. The railway rails are supported by four mutually coupled, steel I-profiles.
Valuation
The railway bridge is of cultural-historical importance as a special expression of a socio-economic, technical, typological and landscape development and of great importance because of its regional pioneering character.
From an architectural-historical point of view, the bridge is important for the history of building technology, because of the regional material use, the ornamentation and because of the aesthetic quality of the design.
The railway bridge is of particular significance because of its setting, which is connected to the development of the region and is of significance for the character of the region.
The bridge has a reasonable architectural integrity and is important in relation to the visual integrity of the landscape environment. The structure is important because of its typological and functional rarity, associated with a relatively high age for railway bridges.
