Omschrijving
Voormalig nonnenklooster Calvarienberg. Tegenwoordig psychiatrische inrichting. Van de oude stichting bestaan o.a. nog een gedeelte uit 1671 en de kapel uit 1710 met aan de westzijde een pilastergevel, die grotendeels is ingebouwd. Verder is er een gedeelte in neoclassicistische trant van het in 1821 gebouwde ziekenhuis.
Inleiding
Neo-Gotisch ADMINISTRATIEGEBOUW, in 1857 gebouwd naar een ontwerp van architect Charles Weber in opdracht van het Burgerlijk Armbestuur. Het administratiegebouw vormde een onderdeel van het Calvariënberg-complex voor geneeskundige en geriatrische (armen)zorg in Maastricht. Het voormalige administratiegebouw is halfvrijstaand gesitueerd aan de rand van de oude binnenstad.
Omschrijving
Het voormalige administratiegebouw heeft een in lengterichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond, telt drie bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met zadeldaken met grijze, oud-Hollands vernieuwde pannen. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen, zandsteen en hardsteen.
Rechthoekige houten vensters met bovenlichten.
Rechthoekige metalen deur van recentere datum.
Beeldbepalend hoekpand met groot bouwvolume, waarvan de lange gevel twaalf vensterassen heeft. Hardstenen plint, bakstenen optrek.
Gevelindeling met behulp van lisenen, centrale bouwdeel bekroond met een trapgevel. Daaronder is de eerste en tweede verdieping gevat in een zandstenen spitsboogomlijsting, met drie- en vierpassen plus een wapenschild. Tussen de lisenen, die zelf uitlopen in kantelen, bevindt zich een muizetanddecoratie. Gevellijsten tussen de bouwlagen. Met uitzondering van de entreepartij beschikken alle twaalf assen over identieke, gekoppelde vensters met bovenlichten. Vensteromlijstingen in baksteen (1e en 3e laag) of zandsteen (2e laag). De gevel in de Calvariestraat heeft blinde vensternissen en een trapgevel met schouderstukken, waarin een drietal boogfriezen en spitsboogvensters.
Het centrale bouwdeel van de achtergevel eveneens bekroond met een trapgevel. Hieronder is de eerste en tweede verdieping gevat in een zandstenen spitsboogomlijsting met drie- en vierpassen.
In de gevel aan Abtstraat drie gevelstenen met resp. de volgende inscripties: Anatole L. Castel, Anna A.S. Castel 1928; Godefroid Cruts-Kerens 1874; Clementine Destouvelles 1858.
Waardering
Het voormalig administratiegebouw is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Het voormalig administratiegebouw bezit architectuurhistorische waarden vanwege de bouwstijl, het belang voor het oeuvre van de architect Charles Weber, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarden ontleent het voormalig administratiegebouw aan de situering binnen het beschermde stadsgezicht Maastricht. Description
The former administration building has a rectangular floor plan placed lengthwise, comprises three storeys and is covered with gabled roofs with grey, renewed old-Dutch tiles. The building materials used are brick, sandstone and hard stone.

Characteristic corner building with large building volume, of which the long facade has twelve window bays. Hard stone plinth, brick construction.
Facade division by means of pilasters, central section crowned with a stepped gable. Below this the first and second floors are set in a sandstone pointed arch frame, with trefoils and quatrefoils plus a coat of arms. Between the pilasters, which themselves end in crenellations, there is tooth moulding decoration. Facade cornices between the storeys. With the exception of the entrance section, all twelve bays have identical, coupled windows with fanlights. Window frames in brick (1st and 3rd storey) or sandstone (2nd storey). The facade on Calvariestraat has blind window niches and a stepped gable with shoulder pieces, in which three arch friezes and pointed arch windows.
The central section of the rear facade likewise crowned with a stepped gable. Below this the first and second floors are set in a sandstone pointed arch frame with trefoils and quatrefoils.
In the facade on Abtstraat three facade stones with the following inscriptions respectively: Anatole L. Castel, Anna A.S. Castel 1928; Godefroid Cruts-Kerens 1874; Clementine Destouvelles 1858.
