Inleiding

(inventaris archief N.H. kerk te Graft, no. 128).

Introduction

Former PARSONAGE, now a dwelling house, situated on the east side of the street, built in 1878 as a replacement for the preceding parsonage (which probably dated from the first half of the 17th century). In 1878 the costs were drawn up by K. Leguit from De Rijp "for the removal of the old parsonage... and the building of a new parsonage..." (inventory archive N.H. church at Graft, no. 128).

The parsonage, built in eclectic style, originally belonged to the Nederlands Hervormde church located north of it, of which only the grave floor remains (protected under monument number: 17068).

The property is surrounded by a garden, which on the front (W) of the street is separated by an iron FENCE, also from 1878, which is likewise under protection.

Description

The property is built on an almost square floor plan with a central projection on the front (W). The property is constructed of purplish-red brick in Flemish bond and consists of one storey under a hipped roof with black glazed Dutch tiles. The front facade (W) on plastered, grey-painted plinth, is symmetrically laid out and is bounded at the corners by stuccoed white-painted pilasters and along the roof edge by a cornice and gutter line, which is corniced above the corner pilasters. The front facade contains, among other things, two T-sash windows on either side of a double panel door with a step of natural stone and a fanlight. This door is located in the central projection, which intersects the cornice and the roof section and which is covered by a gabled roof with sculpted wind vanes and a finial.

Above the front door in the central projection is a balcony fitted with iron railings and resting on consoles. On this balcony opens a double door with glass panels; above this door is a round window.

Along the side facades and the rear facade a running gutter on brackets is installed.

The right side facade (S) contains, among other things, two T-windows; the left side facade (N): a commemorative stone on which the laying of the first stone (1878) is recorded and a cellar window with above it a twelve-pane sash window that dates from before the building period and probably originates from the preceding parsonage.

The rear facade (E) contains, among other things, from left to right: two French doors, a door with fanlight and two T-windows (these window and door frames are copies of the originals).

The central section of this facade continues, with a break in the gutter line, in the gable of a roof dormer. The roof dormer is covered by a gabled roof with carved wind vanes and contains a French window with a round window above it.

The interior of the property is largely intact and contains on the ground floor, among other things, wooden shutters, stowed in the day joints, in the room on the northwest side an original wooden ceiling from 1878, made by the carpenter J.G.N. Hasselman, and in the rooms on the south side wooden ceilings from 1916.

The property also contains remnants of the previous 17th-century house, such as: painted wall tiles, the cellar and the floor beam layer over the cellar.

The property is separated from the road by a decorated iron fence.

Valuation

The former parsonage with associated fence is of general interest from an architectural-historical perspective because of the well-preserved main form and detailing of both exterior and interior. The property has archaeological value because of the remnants of the preceding parsonage from the 17th century.

The property also has cultural-historical and ensemble value because of the historically-functional connection with the (remnants of) the Nederlands Hervormde church and because of the prominent location in the former administrative and ecclesiastical centre of Graft, next to the town hall (1613) and (the remnants of) the church.
