Inleiding
Voormalig WEESHUIS der Doopsgezinde gemeente, gebouwd in 1865 in eclectische trant, met siertuin aan de voorzijde omgeven door een smeedijzeren en gietijzeren HEKWERK. Het voormalige weeshuis is vrijstaand gesitueerd aan de zuidzijde van de Tuingracht in de gemeente De Rijp, in een door het rijk beschermd dorpsgezicht. Het achtererf grenst aan de Buizenhaven. De serre aan de zuidzijde is tijdens de verbouwing tot dubbel woonhuis aangebouwd.
Omschrijving
Het voormalige weeshuis is opgetrokken uit rode baksteen op een hardstenen plint met ventilatieopeningen op een rechthoekige plattegrond en telt een kelder, twee bouwlagen en een kapverdieping onder schilddak met de noklijn evenwijdig aan de weg en bedekt met grijze kruispannen. Op de beide nokeinden is een octogonale schoorsteen geplaatst met hardstenen decoratiestukken. Op de begane grond zijn vijftien-ruits schuifvensters geplaatst, op de verdieping twaalf-ruits schuifvensters. Kenmerkend zijn de palmet- en rozet-ankers. De voorgevel (N) is vijf traveeën breed met risaliet in het midden. Vier hardstenen treden in een uitzwenkende trap leiden naar de dubbele deur met diamantkop-panelen en gesmede raamroosters onder dubbel bovenlicht met kruisroede. Het geheel is gevat in een hardstenen omlijsting van geblokte platstukken en kroonlijst. De vijftien-ruits schuifvensters in de vleugels hebben een hardstenen dorpel en hanekam met incisies. Op de verdiepingscheiding is een hardstenen cordonlijst ontworpen. Op de verdieping is in elke travee een twaalf-ruits schuifvenster geplaatst met hardstenen dorpel en hanekam met incisies. De hardstenen geprofileerde deklijst rust op hardstenen gebeeldhouwde consoles. Tussen de decoratieve bakstenen bloktanden complementeren hardstenen platen de kroonlijst. De getrapt naar voren komende risaliet, met beëindiging van hardstenen consoles onder de kroonlijst, wordt afgesloten door een frontonvormige opzetgevel met houten wanden en steekkap. Onder de kroonlijst, met hardstenen deklijst en bakstenen bloklijsten in hardstenen beëindiging, bevindt zich een buitenbarometer, in houten raamwerk gevat, waarboven een hardstenen gevelsteen met datering (1865). In de barometer is de volgende tekst gezet: A. van Emden Amsterdam / storm, regen, wind, veranderlijk, goed weer, schoon.
De linker zijgevel (O) bevat op de begane grond in het midden een deur onder bovenlicht met links en rechts een vijftien-ruits schuifvenster. Op de verdieping zijn drie twaalf-ruits schuifvensters geplaatst, alles onder bakstenen hanekam. De kroonlijst is opgebouwd uit bakstenen bloklijsten, bakstenen consoles en invulling van gele baksteen.
De rechter zijgevel (W) is voor de helft bepleisterd in blokmotief. Op de begane grond zijn twee vijftien-ruits schuifvensters geplaatst ter weerszijden van een blind venster. Op de verdieping zijn drie twaalf-ruits schuifvensters geplaatst. De kroonlijst is uitgevoerd als aan de oostzijde.
De achtergevel (Z) is uitgevoerd in blokbepleistering. De dubbele paneeldeur, als in de voorgevel, is geplaatst onder een bovenlicht met roedenverdeling. Links is de serre aangebouwd, rechts is een dubbel vijftien-ruits schuifvenster geplaatst. Op de verdieping is links en rechts van het twaalf-ruits schuifvenster in het midden een dubbel twaalf-ruits schuifvenster aangebracht. De middenpartij wordt afgesloten door een frontonvormige opzetgevel met rond venster met straalsgewijze roedenverdeling, houten zijwanden en steekkap.
In het interieur bevinden zich op de verdieping in de linker voorkamer een originele schouw met spiegel en stucwerk plafond.
De siertuin wordt omgeven door een smeedijzeren SPIJLENHEK tussen, in hardsteen gevatte, gietijzeren balusters en met een tweevleugelig centraal toegangshek. De decoraties omvatten pijnappels op de balusters, pijlen op de stijlen en voluutachtige elementen.
Waardering
Het voormalige weeshuis, met bijbehorend hek, is van algemeen belang uit cultuur- en architectuurhistorisch oogpunt als gaaf bewaard gebleven voorbeeld van een in de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw (1865) gebouwd weeshuis in eclectische bouwtrant, beeldbepalend gelegen aan de zuidzijde van de Tuingracht in De Rijp.

Description
The former orphanage is constructed of red brick on a hardstone plinth with ventilation openings on a rectangular floor plan and comprises a basement, two storeys and a roof storey under a hipped roof with the ridge line parallel to the road and covered with grey interlocking tiles. On both ridge ends an octagonal chimney is placed with hardstone decorative pieces. On the ground floor are fifteen-pane sash windows, on the upper storey twelve-pane sash windows. Under the cornice, with hardstone drip moulding and brick block strings in hardstone termination, is located an exterior barometer, set in a wooden frame, above which a hardstone facade stone with dating (1865). The left side facade (E) contains on the ground floor in the centre a door under fanlight with on left and right a fifteen-pane sash window. On the upper storey are three twelve-pane sash windows placed, all under a brick drip moulding. The cornice is built up from brick block strings, brick consoles and infill of yellow brick.
The right side facade (W) is half rendered in block motif. On the ground floor are two fifteen-pane sash windows placed on either side of a blind window. On the upper storey are three twelve-pane sash windows placed. The cornice is executed as on the east side.
The rear facade (S) is executed in block rendering. The double panel door, as in the front facade, is placed under a fanlight with glazing bars.
