Inleiding

Description
Introduction
RECTORY, built in 1866 on the foundation of a church from 1804, according to the design of architect W.J.J. Offenberg from Amsterdam. In 1896 the foundation was renewed under the direction of architect Groenendaal and probably the stepped gable on the south-east corner was built, because space had been created after demolition of the old rectory.
The rectory is situated on the building line on the north side of the Rechtestraat in the village centre of De Rijp, a state-protected village townscape, and on the east side of the Roman Catholic church of Saint Bonifatius, built in 1860-1863 according to the design of W.J.J. Offenberg and J. van Straaten. The church is placed on the national monuments list under monument number: 17162.
Description
Rectory, with cornice-topped facade, consisting of basement, two storeys and attic storey under a shallow pitched hipped roof with the ridge perpendicular to the street and covered with red and black Dutch tiles. A tall chimney stands on the east and west side. The rectory is constructed of red brick on a hard stone plinth. The floor plan is rectangular with an oblique side on the south-east corner and adjoining the transition section to the church on the west side. The sills of the six-light sash windows under ovolo moulding, the stoep and the detailing of the stepped gable, such as brick courses, coping stones and pantile, are executed in hard stone. Characteristic are moreover the ornamental wall anchors. The front facade (S) is four bays wide. Left of the door set in a porch, with upper and side lights in a moulded window frame and accessible via four hard stone steps, is a sash window, right are two sash windows. Below the windows are in the plinth two ventilation openings with grilles. The pilasters are closed on the ground floor and the upper floor with wooden cornices above which ornamental wall anchors. On the floor division a wooden moulded cornice is placed. On the upper floor is in each bay a sash window installed. The far-projecting moulded soffit rests on paired carved consoles between which oculi of the mezzanine. The cornice is of wood. On the south-east corner is the risalit built, with sash window on ground floor and upper floor under a semicircular arch with arch drums in brick mosaic. The projecting stepped gable whose underside forms a double semicircular arch, rests on hard stone consoles. The side gables (E and W) are rendered in block motif on hard stone plinth and provided with ornamental wall anchors and some windows. In the west gable is right above also a blind window. The rear gable (N) has in the second bay from the left French doors under a two-part fanlight with to the left of it likewise French windows. In the two remaining bays is a window with French windows placed. On the upper floor are six-light sash windows installed. Above the moulded gutter line is in the middle a roof dormer with French windows and hoisting beam. In the transition section to the church is a door with side lights and fanlight.
Valuation
The rectory is of general importance from a cultural-historical and architectural-historical perspective as a well-preserved example of a rectory from the second half of the 19th century in eclectic style and because of the historically-functional and spatial relationship with the adjoining Roman Catholic church. The building has ensemble value because of its prominent location on the Rechtestraat in the village centre of De Rijp.
