Inleiding
BIDKAPEL ter ere van de Heilige Maria, gelegen midden in het gehucht Heijenrath ten zuiden van een kruispunt van wegen naar Landraad, Beutenaken en Teuve (België). Datering tweede helft 19 de eeuw. De kapel is fraai gesitueerd nabij de Grote Bosweg en is omgeven door groenaanplant en een laag natuurstenen muurtje met kolommen.
In de kapel zijn restanten van bouwmateriaal van oudere kapellen verwerkt. De dakbedekking is van recentere datum.
Omschrijving
De vrijstaande kapel heeft een in dwarsrichting geplaatste rechthoekige plattegrond, telt één bouwlaag en wordt afgedekt met een zadeldak met shingles. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is kalksteen. Rondboogvormige entree met smeedijzeren hek. Stalen rondboogvormige vensters. Entree en vensters hebben decoratieve natuurstenen omlijstingen. De frontgevel loopt uit in een topgevel met hierin een kleine beeldennis met Mariabeeldje, en bekroond met een stenen kruis.
Langs de dakrand is een decoratieve natuurstenen band aangebracht. De randen van de frontgevel zijn afgewerkt met baksteen.
Aan de achterzijde heeft de kapel afgeschuinde hoeken.
Van het interieur zijn onder meer van belang: terrazzo vloer met hierin een stervorm; houten altaar; rondboogvormige beeldennis met Mariabeeld; tongewelf.
Waardering
De Mariakapel te Slenaken is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling. De kapel bezit streekgebonden architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. De continuïteit van de functie is mede gematerialiseerd door het hergebruik van oude bouwmaterialen.
Ensemblewaarde ontleent de kapel aan de bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van dit deel van Slenaken te weten de kern Heijenrath. De Mariakapel vormt door de landelijke ligging een markeringspunt tussen een drietal dorpen.

Introduction
CHAPEL in honour of the Holy Mary, situated in the middle of the hamlet Heijenrath south of a crossroads of roads to Landraad, Beutenaken and Teuve (Belgium). Dating second half of the 19th century. The chapel is pleasantly situated near the Grote Bosweg and is surrounded by green planting and a low natural stone wall with columns.
In the chapel are remnants of building material from older chapels incorporated. The roof covering is of more recent date.
Description
The free-standing chapel has a rectangular ground plan placed in transverse direction, comprises one storey and is covered with a gabled roof with shingles. The building material used is limestone. Round-arched entrance with wrought-iron gate. Steel round-arched windows. Entrance and windows have decorative natural stone surrounds. The front facade culminates in a gable with a small shrine featuring a statue of Mary, and crowned with a stone cross.
Along the roof edge a decorative natural stone band is applied. The edges of the front facade are finished with brick.
At the rear the chapel has chamfered corners.
From the interior are notably: terrazzo floor with a star shape within it; wooden altar; round-arched shrine with statue of Mary; barrel vault.
Valuation
The Mary Chapel at Slenaken is of cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of a spiritual development. The chapel possesses regional architectural-historical value due to the distinctive use of materials and ornamentation. The continuity of function is also materialized through the reuse of old building materials.
