Omschrijving
Van de 87 arduinstenen hoefslagpalen, geplaatst in 1760 op grond van het besluit van Ridderschap en Steden van Overijssel van 21 maart 1759 zijn er nog maar 5 over. Hoefslagpaal nr. 87 is de laatste van de reeks. De hoefslagpalen zijn geplaatst ter vervanging van houten palen. De nummers op de hoefslagpalen en de op de palen vermelde afstanden komen overeen met de gegevens in de dijkboeken. De hoegslagpalen begrensden onderhoudsvakken van de Sallandse dijk. Alle overige in ons land aanwezig geweest zijnde hoefslagpalen zijn verdwenen. Doordat in Salland stenen palen zijn gebruikt en niet volgens plan zijn verwijderd, heeft een aantal de oorlog en de dijkverzwaring overleefd.
Hoefslagpaal nr. 87 heeft enige jaren in de tuin van het Provinciaal Overijssels Museum gestaan maar is in 1991 op de oorspronkelijke plaats teruggeplaatst. De paal staat aan de noordzijde van het fietspad langs de IJsseldijk op circa 200 meter ten westen van het punt waar de Uiterwijkseweg op de dijk komt. Zeskantige arduinstenen paal gedekt met een halve bol. Inscriptie uit 1760: 87 R 127 V 8 D 1. Bovendien is deze paal voorzien van de letters M en S en van een steenhouwersteken. De M duidt op mastenbroek, de S op Salland.
Waardering
De hoefslagpaal is van belang:
- vanwege de hoge typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid en bijzondere ouderdom;
- als bijzondere uitdrukking van een bestuurlijke ontwikkeling, namelijk het markeren van de onderhoudsvakken van de dijk;
- vanwege de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met de rivier de IJssel en het aangrenzende landschap.

Of the 87 stone survey markers placed in 1760 by order of the Ridderschap en Steden van Overijssel of 21 March 1759, only 5 remain. Survey marker no. 87 is the last of the series. The survey markers were placed to replace wooden posts. The numbers on the survey markers and the distances indicated on the posts correspond with the data in the dike registers. The survey markers delimited maintenance sections of the Sallandse dike. All other survey markers that existed in our country have disappeared. Because stone posts were used in Salland and were not removed according to plan, a number of them survived the war and the dike reinforcement.
Survey marker no. 87 stood in the garden of the Provinciaal Overijssels Museum for a number of years but was relocated to its original position in 1991. The post stands on the north side of the bicycle path along the IJsseldijk at approximately 200 metres west of the point where the Uiterwijkseweg meets the dike.
