Inleiding
Aan de zuidzijde van het Emmaplein in 1938 tot stand gekomen en in het plantsoen gesitueerd MONUMENT voor koningin Emma naar een ontwerp van Lambertus Zijl in opdracht van de gemeente Amsterdam.
Omschrijving
Natuurstenen gedenkteken, voorstellende Koningin Emma, zittend op een open leunstoel, op een eveneens natuurstenen vierkante sokkel aan alle zijden voorzien van symbolische voorstellingen in reliëf. Op de voorzijde (Z) het wapen van Nederland tussen het opschrift KONINGIN EMMA met daaronder geboorte- en sterfdatum boven zes naar boven kijkende figuren met gehevend armen; aan de oostzijde een vrouw met een weegschaal en een boek als attribuut; aan de achterzijde twee vrouwefiguren die een opengeslagen boek vasthouden; aan de westzijde twee vrouwenfiguren waarbij de een de ander de hand boven het hoofd houdt.

On the south side of the Emmaplein, a MONUMENT for Queen Emma, created in 1938 and situated in the small garden, designed by Lambertus Zijl on behalf of the municipality of Amsterdam.
Description
Natural stone memorial, representing Queen Emma, sitting on an open armchair, on a likewise natural stone square plinth provided on all sides with symbolic representations in relief. On the front (S) the coat of arms of the Netherlands between the inscription QUEEN EMMA with below it date of birth and death above six upward-looking figures with raised arms; on the east side a woman with scales and a book as attributes; on the rear two female figures holding an open book; on the west side two female figures whereby the one holds her hand above the head of the other.
