Inleiding
Op de hoek van de Honthorststraat en Jan Luykenstraat in 1912-1913 in Rationalistische stijl opgetrokken, aan vier zijden vrijstaande VILLA, genaamd Villa Reens, naar een ontwerp van H. Elte in opdracht van R. Reens, directeur van de N.V. Nederlandsche Fabriek voor Betimmeringen v/h Gebr. Reens.
Omschrijving
Vrijstaande in donkerrode baksteen, op een nagenoeg rechthoekige plattegrond, opgetrokken hoekvilla bestaande uit hoofdverdieping, eerste verdieping, tweede verdieping en een kapverdieping onder een overstekende daklijst waarboven een afgeknot tentdak, gedekt door rode pannen, bekroond door een lantaarn.
Voorgevel aan de Honthorststraat bestaat uit drie traveeën welke van elkaar gescheiden worden door lisenen. De middelste, de ingangstravee, is een weinig teruggerooid. De entree ligt in een boogportiek, toegankelijk via een natuurstenen stoep, achter een grille. Aan weerszijden van de portiek een smal langwerpig venster met tuimelbovenlicht. Op de eerste verdieping een groot in drieën onderverdeeld venster geflankeerd door twee smalle vensters. Hier eveneens tuimelbovenlichten. Op de tweede verdieping een inwendig balkon met ajour balustrade.
De twee zijtraveeën van de voorgevel zijn identiek met gekoppelde vensters in de eerste twee verdiepingen. Op de tweede verdieping elk een in drieën onderverdeeld, enigszins naar buiten hellend, venster met roedenverdeling. Onder de vensters sierconsoles.
De zijgevel aan de Jan Luykenstraat bestaat eveneens uit drie traveeën, van elkaar gescheiden door lisenen. De middentravee heeft over de hoofdverdieping een ronde erker waarin vier langwerpige vensters met tuimelbovenlichten. De erker heeft een bovenliggend balkon met ajour balustrade. In de zijtraveeën gekoppelde vensters. In de tweede verdieping uitkragende vensters met roedenverdeling en met sierconsoles. Achtergevel (O) bestaat uit drie traveeën, van elkaar gescheiden door lisenen. In de rechtertravee een uitbouw onder een hellend dak bedekt door rode pannen. In de middentravee over de hoofdverdieping een driehoekige erker waarboven een balkon met ajour balustrade. Balkondeur met getoogd bovenlicht. De vier smalle vensters in de erker zijn voorzien van een roedenverdeling. In de linkertravee over eerste en tweede verdieping een flauw uitstekende erker. Overige vensters als hierboven beschreven.
Rechterzijgevel (Z) met onregelmatig geplaatste vensters. In de middentravee een zijingang. In de rechtertravee een in drieën verdeelde erker over eerste en tweede verdieping.
De vier gevelzijden worden verder verlevendigd door het gebruik van hoeklisenen en de drie gemetselde, boven elkaar gelegen, banden op de tweede verdieping.
N.B. De garage is in 1925 toegevoegd door A. Moen.
Waardering
Rationalistische villa van belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarde alsmede van belang vanwege de stedebouwkundige waarde als onderdeel van de villabebouwing aan en rondom het Museumplein.

Description
Freestanding in dark red brick, on a nearly rectangular ground plan, a corner villa consisting of ground floor, first floor, second floor and a garret storey under an overhanging cornice above which a truncated hipped roof, covered with red tiles, crowned by a lantern.
Front facade on the Honthorststraat consists of three bays which are separated from each other by pilasters. The middle bay, the entrance bay, is slightly recessed. The entrance lies in an arched portico, accessible via a natural stone step, behind a grille. On either side of the portico a narrow elongated window with tumble fanlight. On the first floor a large window divided into three parts flanked by two narrow windows. Here also tumble fanlights. On the second floor an internal balcony with perforated balustrade.
The two side bays of the front facade are identical with coupled windows in the first two floors. On the second floor each a window divided into three parts, slightly leaning outward, with glazing bars. Below the windows ornamental consoles.

The four narrow windows in the turret are provided with glazing bars. In the left bay over first and second floor a slightly projecting turret. Other windows as described above.
Right side facade (S) with irregularly placed windows. In the middle bay a side entrance. In the right bay a turret divided into three parts over first and second floor.
The four facade sides are further enlivened by the use of corner pilasters and three mortared bands placed one above the other on the second floor.
N.B. The garage was added in 1925 by A. Moen.
Valuation
Rationalist villa of significance due to its architectural-historical value as well as of significance due to its urban planning value as part of the villa development on and around the Museumplein.
