Inleiding

Introduction

Detached VILLA from 1862 on a rectangular plot, situated on the north-west side of Vooreiland. The building was originally constructed as a mayor's residence. The building is set back somewhat from the road and has a front garden with driveways. The garden is separated from Vooreiland by means of a cast-iron fence and contains, among other things, a cast-iron lamp post.

Description

The building, consisting of two storeys, is built of brick and is provided with a white plaster layer as an imitation of stone blocks and is covered by a hipped roof with grey Dutch tiles.

The facade (south) is divided into three bays by means of pilasters. A block-shaped ornament marks the transition from ground floor to first floor between the spandrels of the pilasters.

The outer bays contain T-shaped sash windows in both storeys. In the middle bay on the ground floor is the entrance section, which is reached via a flight of three steps, consisting of wooden double doors, furnished with decorative cast-iron grilles and a fanlight. Above this door are heavy, scroll-shaped consoles, among other things decorated with lion's head and rosettes, on which the balcony of the first floor rests. The balcony railing contains decorative wrought ironwork. The balcony doors, split into three double doors and divided into three sections fanlight, are, like the windows, surrounded by a moulded frame beneath a stucco ornament of scrollwork and a mask.

The facade is terminated by a cornice, supported by scroll consoles, which are located above the pilasters. Spandrels and rosettes are incorporated in the frieze.

The left side facade (west) is bounded at the corners by the same type of pilaster as on the front facade. On the ground floor on either side of a hexagonal projection are T-shaped sash windows, identical to those of the front facade. On the first floor in the middle is a T-shaped sash window and further two small octagonal windows.

The right side facade has a structure and detailing identical to that of the west facade, with the exception of the portico present there. Some changes have been made to the windows.

The rear facade (north) on the Oosterhaven consists, like the front facade, of three bays; the middle bay, however, contains windows instead of doors.

The iron garden fence contains, among other things, fluted colonettes with pin-shaped crowns; at the corners more heavily executed round pillars.

Valuation

The building is of general importance due to its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value, as an intact and early example of the block-shaped type of mansion. The residence is also of social-historical importance as a characteristic element from the history of living in North Holland in the 19th century, in this case a residence of a notable.
