Inleiding
Aan de zuidzijde van de Kaasmarkt geplaatste BAROMETER, met de voorzijde gericht op het noorden. De barometer dateert, getuige een opschrift op de wijzerplaat, uit 1878.
Omschrijving
De ronde barometer met een groene ijzeren kast met dichte achterwand is geplaatst op een eveneens groene gietijzeren zuil. Deze zuil is voorzien van cannelures en gekleurde gietijzeren ornamenten aansluitend op de kast. De wijzerplaat is wit met zwart opschrift. De barometer wordt aan de bovenzijde bekroond door een smeedijzeren ornament.
Waardering
De barometer is van algemeen belang vanwege de typologische waarde en omwille van de uniciteitswaarde als zijnde een 19de-eeuws meteorologisch instrument.

BAROMETER placed on the south side of the Kaasmarkt, with the front facing north. The barometer dates, as evidenced by an inscription on the dial, from 1878.
Description
The round barometer with a green iron casing with closed rear wall is placed on an equally green cast-iron column. This column is provided with fluting and coloured cast-iron ornaments in keeping with the casing. The dial is white with black lettering. The barometer is crowned at the top by a wrought-iron ornament.
Valuation
The barometer is of general importance because of its typological value and because of its uniqueness value as being a 19th-century meteorological instrument.
