Inleiding
De BOERDERIJ met dwarsgeplaatst voorhuis, middels hals verbonden met het schuurgedeelte, is gebouwd in 1905 in eclectische trant. De decoratieve elementen aan de voorgevel zijn recent vernieuwd in oorspronkelijke vorm.
Omschrijving
De boerderij is opgetrokken in bruine bakstenen en bestaat uit een dwarsgeplaatst voorhuis via een hals gekoppeld aan een schuurgedeelte. Het woongedeelte heeft een met Lucas IJsbrandpannen gedekt schilddak. De gevel van het dwarshuis heeft een rollaag aan voet van de gevel en gemetselde hoeklisenen met spiegels. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een daklijst, aan de voorgevel met panelen, waarboven gootlijst en sneeuwbord. In het dwarshuis zijn verticale houten T-vensters onder segmentbogen met bossage op aanzet- en sluitstenen en gemetselde trommelvelden. De centrale ingangspartij met drietreeds natuurstenen trap en inpandige betegelde portiek bevindt zich in het middenrisaliet. In de portiek is een gevelsteen met opschrift: GEBOUWD 1905 W. Y. T. A. MEERSTRA. De boogtrommel boven de geverfde paneeldeur is gevuld met geglazuurde tegeltjes. Boven het portiek is een uitgemetselde kajuit met een houten balkon op klossen met leeuwenkop; de kajuit wordt bekroond door een rondboogfronton met rozet waarop piron. De balkondeur met strek waarin sluit- en aanzetstenen heeft twee rondboogvensters. Op de hoeken van nok en hoekkepers zijn twee schoorstenen met schoorsteenborden. In de hals van de boerderij aan de westzijde is een dubbel rechthoekig T-venster waar de twee boogtrommels zijn gevuld met geel- en bruin gekleurde driehoekige bakstenen. Aan de oostzijde in de hals zijn rechthoekige vensters en een kelderraam. Het schuurgedeelte onder wolfdak is aan drie zijden met riet gedekt, het zuidelijke dakschild met Lucas IJsbrandpannen. In het begin van de westgevel is een vernieuwde zij-ingang naar het woongedeelte ingebroken. Aan deze zijde zijn in de langsgevel drie getoogde stalramen onder strek en een dubbele houten deur. Aan de achtergevel van de schuur is een oorspronkelijke mendeur, een getoogd- en een roosvenster. De muurankers zijn niet meer aanwezig en de overige indeling van de achtergevel is gewijzigd of vernieuwd. De oostgevel van de schuur, twaalf traveeën diep, heeft getoogde drieruits stalramen. Op de nok van het schuurgedeelte zijn twee uileborden, één is vernieuwd en één incompleet.
In het interieur is de indeling ongewijzigd en zijn elementen zoals ondermeer de bedsteden en de fraai gestucte plafonds nog aanwezig.
Waardering
De in 1905 gebouwde boerderij met dwarsgeplaatst voorhuis in Twijzel is van cultuurhistorisch en architectonisch belang:
- als ruimtelijk en functioneel hoofdbestanddeel van het complex,
- als voorbeeld van een redelijkveel voorkomend boerderijtype in deze gemeente,

The FARMHOUSE with transversely-placed front wing, connected by means of a neck to the barn section, was built in 1905 in eclectic style. The decorative elements on the front facade have recently been renewed in original form.
Description
The farmhouse is constructed in brown brick and consists of a transversely-placed front wing connected via a neck to a barn section. The residential section has a hipped roof covered with Lucas IJsbrand tiles. The gable of the transverse wing has a roll course at the foot of the facade and built-up corner pilasters with panels. The gable is finished by a cornice, at the front gable with panels, above which gutter moulding and drip board. In the transverse wing are vertical wooden T-windows beneath segmental arches with bossage on abutment and closing stones and built-up arch soffits. The central entrance section with three-step natural stone steps and internal tiled porch is located in the central projection. In the porch is a building stone with inscription: BUILT 1905 W. Y. T. A. MEERSTRA. The arch soffit above the painted panelled door is filled with glazed tiles. Above the porch is a built-up cabin with a wooden balcony on corbels with lion's head; the cabin is crowned by a round-arch pediment with rosette on which finial. The balcony door with strek in which are closing and abutment stones has two round-arch windows. On the corners of ridge and hip rafters are two chimneys with chimney boards. In the neck of the farmhouse on the west side is a double rectangular T-window where the two arch soffits are filled with yellow and brown coloured triangular bricks. On the east side in the neck are rectangular windows and a basement light. The barn section beneath a half-hipped roof is thatched on three sides, the southern roof slope covered with Lucas IJsbrand tiles. At the beginning of the west gable is a renewed side entrance to the residential section. On this side are in the long gable three arched stable windows beneath strek and a double wooden door. On the rear gable of the barn is an original hatch door, an arched and a circular window. The wall anchors are no longer present and the other layout of the rear gable has been altered or renewed. The east gable of the barn, twelve bays deep, has arched three-light stable windows. On the ridge of the barn section are two owl boards, one is renewed and one incomplete.
In the interior the layout is unchanged and elements such as notably the bed alcoves and the finely stuccoed ceilings are still present.
Valuation
The farmhouse with transversely-placed front wing built in 1905 in Twijzel is of cultural-historical and architectural importance:
- as a spatial and functional main component of the complex,
- as an example of a reasonably common farmhouse type in this municipality,
- on account of the high degree of architectural integrity of the farmhouse with thatched roof.
