Inleiding
Met elementen van Neo-Romaans in 1927 naar een ontwerp van architect Joseph Franssen uit Roermond gebouwde KATHOLIEKE KERK ter ere van Sint Jozef.
Bouwmeester was Johannes Duijf en de aannemer was Fincken uit Stevensweert.
De kerk is aan de rechterzijde verbonden met de naastgelegen pastorie, en aan de linker- en achterzijde bevindt zich de katholieke begraafplaats.
Omschrijving
De kerk heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met zadeldaken en lessenaarsdaken met leien in Maasdekking. Dakkapelletjes. De toren is haaks op de frontgevel geplaatst en wordt bekroond met een dakruiter met weerhaan.
Rondboogvormige vensters. Rondboogvormige houten deur.
Ingangspartij licht naar voren springend. De deur ligt iets terug achter een naar binnen toe trapvormig verlopende omlijsting. Deur heeft een glas-in-lood bovenlicht. De toren heeft verticale accenten d.m.v. een aantal zeer smalle venstertjes. De achter de toren gelegen beuken hebben horizontale accenten in de vorm van reeksen rondboog venstertjes. De hoeken van de toren en de geleding van de gevels wordt gevormd door pilasters. In de ingangspartij en rond de rondboog vensters bevindt zich siermetselwerk.
Aan de linkerzijgevel van de toren bevindt zich een kleine doopkapel afgedekt met een schilddak.
Van het INTERIEUR zijn onder meer van belang: glas-in-lood vensters in de eerste bouwlaag van glazenier Hub Levigne; schilderingen rond de altaarboog en achter het altaar van Robert Franquinet uit 1942; een houten Missiekruis uit 1928 boven het altaar, geschonken door de familie Goossen-Heijnen uit Maarland; het altaar in bruine en witte marmer met hierin een tabernakel in koper; authentieke houten kerkbanken.
Pneumatisch orgel met twee klavieren en vrij pedaal, gemaakt door de firma M. Pereboom en Zn in 1919.
Smeedijzeren toegangspoort naar de naast en achter de kerk gelegen begraafplaats.
Waardering
De Sint Jozef kerk van Oost-Maarland is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling namelijk de katholieke religie. Binnen het oeuvre katholieke kerken van architect Joseph Franssen is deze kerk tevens typologisch van belang. De kerk bezit architectuurhistorische waarden wegens het belang voor de bovenregionale geschiedenis van de architectuur, voor het oeuvre van architect Joseph Franssen en de bijzondere samenhang tussen ex- en interieur.

CATHOLIC CHURCH dedicated to Saint Joseph, with Neo-Romanesque elements, built in 1927 after a design by architect Joseph Franssen from Roermond.
The master builder was Johannes Duijf and the contractor was Fincken from Stevensweert.
The church is connected on the right side with the adjacent presbytery, and on the left and rear sides is the Catholic cemetery.
Description
The church has a rectangular floor plan, comprises two storeys and is covered with gabled roofs and lean-to roofs with slate in Maas bond. Roof dormers. The tower is placed at right angles to the front facade and is crowned with a roof turret with weather vane.
Round arch-shaped windows. Round arch-shaped wooden door.
Entrance section projecting slightly forward. The door is set slightly back behind an inward tapering frame. Door has a leaded glass fanlight. The tower has vertical accents by means of a number of very narrow little windows. The aisles located behind the tower have horizontal accents in the form of series of round arch windows. The corners of the tower and the articulation of the facades are formed by pilasters. In the entrance section and around the round arch windows is ornamental brickwork.
On the left side facade of the tower is a small baptistery covered with a hipped roof.
Of the INTERIOR the following are among the most important: leaded glass windows on the first storey by glazier Hub Levigne; paintings around the altar arch and behind the altar by Robert Franquinet from 1942; a wooden Mission cross from 1928 above the altar, donated by the Goossen-Heijnen family from Maarland; the altar in brown and white marble with a tabernacle in copper; authentic wooden church pews.
