Description

Introduction THATCHED FARMHOUSE of the North Holland type, situated on the east side of the Dorpsweg with the ridge line perpendicular to the road. The farmhouse probably dates from the third quarter of the 19th century. The right side (S) has been renewed, however without damaging the monumental appearance of the farmhouse. N.B. The extension at the rear falls outside the protection. Description A thatched farmhouse built on a rectangular ground plan and partly cellared, with a hipped roof thatched in reed with an arched mirror on the front (W) and surrounding pantile border. The mirror has a red glazed Dutch pan, the pantile border has a black Dutch pan. Above the mirror stands a round chimney on a square base in the western roof slope. The internal wooden supporting structure contains a square built up from four pillars with tie-beam carpentry and overhang above the dwelling (W). On the west side of the square is the dwelling, on the north side the threshing floor and on the east and south sides the cowshed. The masonry is raised above a plinth finished with cement in red brick with yellow brick for decoration. The threshing floor wall consists of horizontal boarding (rabat sections). The symmetrically arranged and richly decorated front facade (W) is divided by four-bloched pilasters - of which two are corner pilasters - into three bays, each containing two window axes. The facade is finished by a carved cornice on consoles. Above the central bay is a dormer under a gently sloped gabled roof with overhang, richly carved wind braces and bargeboard. The masonry of the dormer has corner pilasters, band courses and a double arched central window. Above this window the dormer has three small round windows. Both side walls of the dormer also each have a small round window. The six window axes of the front facade have five arched sash windows, the second axis from the right (S) contains the (renewed) front door. The left side (N) is finished by a wooden gutter that lies lower than the cornice of the front facade. The left side has in the masoned right half (W) two sash windows with T-profile. The wooden left half (threshing floor wall) contains three small square four-pane windows. The rear (E) contains on the right (N) the threshing floor door and to its left respectively two arched iron stable windows. Evaluation The thatched farmhouse is of general importance from an architectural and cultural-historical perspective as a well-preserved example of agricultural architecture from the third quarter of the 19th century. The farmhouse has situational value because of its prominent urban-planning position.
