Inleiding
In een traditionele bouwstijl rond 1911 langs de Rijksweg in Margraten gebouwd KLOOSTER MET SCHOOLGEBOUW. De aanbouwen aan de achtergevel van klooster en schoolgebouwzijn uitgesloten van bescherming.
Omschrijving
Het klooster en schoolgebouw heeft een T-vormige plattegrond, telt twee bouwlagen en wordt afgedekt met mansardedaken gedekt met tuiles du Nord pannen. De toegepaste bouwmaterialen zijn baksteen en mergel. Het vrijstaande gebouw bestaat uit twee met elkaar verbonden panden, waarbij het voormalige schoolgebouw haaks op de rechterzijgevel van het klooster staat. Rechthoekige houten T vensters. Rechthoekige houten deur gevat in een segmentboog. Het oostelijk gelegen pand, het klooster, heeft een naar voren springend middendeel, dit gedeelte loopt uit in een topgevelachtige dakkapel, en is door een laagbouw met recente raampartijen verbonden met het haaks daarop gelegen schoolgebouw. De straatgevel van het schoolgebouw is voorzien van een decoratieve nis met H. Hartbeeld. Aan de onderzijde van het H. Hartbeeld een gevelsteen met het jaartal 1911. In de rechterzijgevel van het voormalige schoolgebouw wordt de dakgoot onderbroken door de dakkapelachtige vensters. Aan de achtergevel enkele aanbouwen in een bouwlaag en met een plat dak. Aan de straatzijde een bakstenen muur met hierop bakstenen kolommen verbonden met smeedijzeren stangen.
Waardering
Het klooster met voormalig schoolgebouw is van cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele, geestelijke en typologische ontwikkeling. Het object bezit streekgebonden architectuurhistorische waarde en is van belang vanwege het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het object door de situering aan de Rijksweg en daarmee onderdeel uitmakend van een lineaire ontwikkeling in de bebouwing van de kern Margraten, en tevens van betekenis voor het aanzien van dit dorp. Klooster en voormalige school zijn tenslotte van algemeen belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur, en de typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid.

The convent and schoolbuilding has a T-shaped floor plan, comprises two storeys and is covered with mansard roofs tiled with tuiles du Nord tiles. The building materials used are brick and marl. The detached building consists of two adjoining structures, with the former schoolbuilding positioned at right angles to the right side facade of the convent. Rectangular wooden cross windows. Rectangular wooden door set in a segmental arch. The easterly situated building, the convent, has a projecting central section, this section terminates in a gabled roof dormer, and is connected by a low building with recent window arrangements to the schoolbuilding positioned at right angles to it. Both buildings are decorated in a corresponding manner: horizontal marl bands, pilasters, the use of brick relief under the eaves, decorative cornice. The street facade of the schoolbuilding is fitted with a decorative niche containing an H. Heart image. Below the H. Heart image a facade stone bearing the year 1911. In the right side facade of the former schoolbuilding the roof gutter is interrupted by the dormer-like windows. On the rear facade several outbuildings in one storey with a flat roof. On the street side a brick wall with brick columns upon it connected with wrought iron rods.

The convent with former schoolbuilding is of cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural, spiritual and typological development. The object possesses regionally characteristic architectural-historical value and is of importance because of the particular use of materials and ornamentation. Ensemble value is derived by the object through its situation on the Rijksweg and thereby forming part of a linear development in the built environment of the village centre Margraten, and is also of significance for the appearance of this village. The convent and former school are finally of general importance because of the architectural integrity of the exterior, and the typological and functional rarity.
