Inleiding
WOONHUIS, gesitueerd op de hoek van de gesloten, noordelijke gevelwand van de Poelestraat en de Schoolstraat, van oorsprong zestiende-eeuws of zeventiende-eeus gebouw, verbouwd in circa 1860 in een voor de negentiende eeuw karakteristieke eclectische bouwstijl. Het gebouw is thans in gebruik als studentenbewoning en daartoe inwendig aangepast.
Omschrijving
Het grote, monumentale gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond en bestaat uit een (hoger) voorhuis met achterhuis. Het voorhuis telt twee bouwlagen en een mezzanine-verdieping; de achterbouw telt twee bouwlagen, onder een gemeenschappelijk schilddak, belegd met een grijze Fries golfpan. De voorgevel is vier raamtraveeën breed. Alle gevels zijn geheel gepleisterd en voorzien van schijnvoegen. Aan de voorgevel bevindt zich een verdiept souterrain met een ijzeren hekwerk. De vensters hebben rondgezette bovenhoeken met smal, geprofileerd lijstwerk in stuc en omvangrijke stuc kuiven. De hoofdgevel wordt afgesloten door een geprofileerde kroonlijst met rijkbewerkte consoles, die een geprofileerde bakgoot dragen. De voorbouw is één raamtravee diep. De zijgevel heeft eenvoudige rechtgesloten vensters en een toegangsdeur. In de kap is een kajuit aangebracht met een houten, tonvormig trijshuisje met smeedijzeren schoren.
Waardering
Bouwwerk, van oorsprong zestiende of zeventiende eeuws met een monumentale negentiende eeuwse lijstgevel, van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde. DWELLING HOUSE, situated at the corner of the closed, northern facade wall of the Poelestraat and the Schoolstraat, originally a sixteenth-century or seventeenth-century building, rebuilt around 1860 in an eclectic architectural style characteristic of the nineteenth century. The building is currently in use as student housing and has been internally adapted for this purpose.
Description
The large, monumental building is constructed on a rectangular floor plan and consists of a (taller) front house with rear house. The front house has two storeys and a mezzanine level; the rear building has two storeys, under a common hipped roof, covered with grey Frisian clay tile. The front facade is four window bays wide. All facades are completely plastered and provided with false joints. On the front facade is a sunken basement with iron railing. The windows have rounded upper corners with narrow, profiled stucco moulding and extensive stucco cornices. The main facade is finished by a profiled cornice with richly worked consoles, which carry a profiled rain gutter. The front building is one window bay deep. The side facade has simple straight-headed windows and an entrance door. In the roof a deck cabin is installed with a wooden, barrel-shaped roof structure with wrought-iron braces.
Valuation
Building, originally a sixteenth or seventeenth-century structure with a monumental nineteenth-century cornice-topped facade, of general importance because of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value. As an original dwelling house with warehouse it is of significance for the socio-economic history of the city.
