Inleiding PAKHUIS, gesitueerd in de nagenoeg gesloten westelijke gevelwand van het Lage der A, gebouwd in 1885 in een ambachtelijk-traditionele bouwstijl en uitgebreid in 1903. In de jaren tachtig is het pakhuis verbouwd tot wooncomplex met atelierruimtes. Omschrijving Monumentaal breed pakhuis, opgetrokken op een in hoofdvorm rechthoekige plattegrond, van zeven bouwlagen hoog en bestaande uit drie delen, die ieder een geleding hebben van een hijsdeurtravee, geflankeerd door raamtraveeën. Waarschijnlijk is het linker gedeelte het eerst gebouwd tot vijf bouwlagen hoog en zijn de andere twee delen en een verhoging met twee bouwlagen in 1903 tot stand gekomen. Alleen de bouwnaad tussen het linker deel en het middengedeelte doorbreekt de volstrekte symmetrie. Op de begane grond is de gevel gemetseld in een natuursteen blokkensuggestie. De deur- en raamgeleding van de begane grond is onregelmatig. Deze en de andere muuropeningen zijn alle segmentboogvormig gesloten en gedekt met hanekammen. In de zijgevel aan de zijde van de Dwarsstraat zijn reeksen rondboogvensters aangebracht. Het complex is gedekt met een plat dak, maar bezit steile zijschilden. Waardering Pakhuis, van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde, alsmede vanwege zijn betekenis voor de sociaal-economische geschiedenis van de stad Groningen en in het bijzonder de negentiende-eeuwse graanhandel. Introduction WAREHOUSE, situated in the virtually closed western facade of the Lage der A, built in 1885 in a craft-traditional building style and extended in 1903. In the eighties the warehouse was converted into a residential complex with studio spaces. Description Monumental broad warehouse, erected on a substantially rectangular plan, seven storeys high and consisting of three parts, each having a division of a hoist-door bay, flanked by window bays. The left section was probably first built to five storeys high and the other two parts and an extension of two storeys were created in 1903. Only the construction joint between the left section and the middle section breaks the absolute symmetry. On the ground floor the facade is laid in a natural stone block suggestion. The door and window division of the ground floor is irregular. These and the other wall openings are all closed with segmental arches and covered with crow-step copings. In the side facade on the side of the Dwarsstraat rows of round-arched windows are installed. The complex is covered with a flat roof, but has steep side hipped roofs.
