Introduction MANSION, situated in the practically closed northern facade wall of the Heresingel, built in 1883 by order of J.P. Alofs according to designs by architect J. Maris in a neoclassical architectural style. The building is currently in use as a practice with residential house and for this purpose internally largely adapted.

The wide building is erected on a plot of predominantly rectangular form and comprises two storeys under a truncated hipped roof, covered with a flat, black Frisian tile. The front facade is symmetrical in composition and five bays wide. The facade masonry is laid in red brick. The central risalit contains the main entrance with a three-step hardstone stoop. On the ground floor the facade is provided with a plinth moulding of hardstone and a plastered base. The front courtyard is bordered by worked iron railings. The straight-edged windows received stucco surrounds with tympana on consoles. The door with semicircular fanlight is set slightly back behind a three-step high stoop which is roofed by a balcony. The balcony is carried by two sturdy, fluted pillars on high bases and two pilasters with the same design against the front facade. Over these supports is laid a frieze of triglyphs and metopes and above it a balcony floor moulding and the balustrade. The windows and the opening door of the upper storey are straight-edged and provided with strict moulding with architraves and accolade-form moulding on the railings. The corners of the front facade are provided with stuccoed, staggered corner blocks. The facade is concluded by a broad cornice with dentil moulding and a series of consoles, which carry the profiled gutter. In the middle against the front roof slope is positioned above the entrance arrangement a gable pavilion with splayed brackets with decorative balls and crowned with a semicircular tympanum with obelisk-shaped vases. The right part of the rear facade has been renewed. At the northeast corner of the rear facade is attached a round brick staircase tower with openwork wooden fascia board. Internally still of importance the hall and corridor with stucco ornamentation and wooden staircase with round-arch entrance with pilasters at the corners and the original window sills of the right room at the front on the first storey.

Mansion, designed with restraint in a neoclassical architectural style, characteristic of the building art from the last quarter of the nineteenth century, designed by architect J. Maris, of general importance because of its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value because of its beauty which manifests itself particularly in the fine facade composition and the carefully considered use of materials. Moreover, the building, forming part of the connected series of valuable mansions on the north side of the Heresingel, constitutes an important element in the high-quality urban planning structure of the belt of arcaded buildings along the south side of the inner city of Groningen.
