Inleiding DUBBELE VILLA, vrijstaand gesitueerd aan de Oranjesingel in een reeks van karakteristieke villa's aan de westzijde van het Noorderplantsoen, gebouwd in 1926 naar ontwerp van architect M.B. Bruins in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School. Het gebouw is thans nog in gebruik als woonhuis met twee zelfstandige eenheden. Omschrijving Het gebouw is opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond uit donkerbruine mondsteen en telt twee bouwlagen en een zolderverdieping. Het oostelijke deel heeft een plat dak; het westelijke deel een schilddak met fors overstek, belegd met een oranje romaanse pan. Vanuit de zolderverdieping is een toegang tot een dakterras. De houten goot is voorzien van cassetten.De toegang naar elk van de woningen in de zijgevels wordt in de architectonische vormgeving gemarkeerd door een verticaal, gesausd, betonnen element over alle bouwlagen. Hierin een drietal langgerekte vensterstroken. De middentraveeën van de oostgevel risaleren circa 0.75 m en vertonen een knik ten opzichte van de rooilijn. Op de middenas is een liseen uitgemetseld, rustend op een betonnen plaat waaronder een vijftal decoratieve betonplaten. De top van dit geveldeel is gemetseld in sierverband. De rechthoekige vensters hebben zware houten kozijnen en 1 steens rollagen. Op de verdieping aan de westgevel twee balkons waarvan de borstwering met houten delen is gepotdekseld. Waardering Dubbele villa, opgetrokken in de stijl van de Amsterdamse School naar ontwerp van de Groninger architect en kunstenaar M.B. Bruins, van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde, de gaafheid van het exterieur, en vanwege zijn betekenis voor het (kleine) oeuvre van de architect.

Introduction DETACHED DOUBLE VILLA, situated at the Oranjesingel in a series of characteristic villas on the west side of the Noorderplantsoen, built in 1926 according to a design by architect M.B. Bruins in the Amsterdam School style. The building is currently still in use as a dwelling with two self-contained units. Description The building is constructed on a rectangular floor plan from dark-brown brick and comprises two storeys and an attic storey. The eastern part has a flat roof; the western part a hipped roof with substantial overhang, covered with an orange Romanesque tile. From the attic storey there is access to a roof terrace. The wooden gutter is fitted with cassettes. The entrance to each of the dwellings in the side facades is marked in the architectural design by a vertical, rendered concrete element over all storeys. In this are three elongated window strips. The central bays of the east facade project approximately 0.75 m and show a kink relative to the building line. On the central axis a lisene is built out, resting on a concrete plate below which are five decorative concrete plates. The top of this facade section is built in decorative bond. The rectangular windows have heavy wooden frames and 1-brick relieving arches. On the storey above at the west facade two balconies, the parapet of which is sealed off with wooden parts. Evaluation Double villa, constructed in the Amsterdam School style according to a design by Groningen architect and artist M.B.
