Inleiding
Blok van twee WONINGEN van het type II, gebouwd in 1901 in opdracht van het Ministerie van Justitie en behorend tot een groep van dubbele woonhuizen bestemd voor de schrijvers 2e rang bij het beheer, rijksveldwachters, opzichters veldarbeid, schrijvers/opzichters aan de fabriek. Het ontwerp is van W.C. Metzelaar. De woningen, met in de topgevels de letters I en K, zijn gebouwd op de plaats waar het in 1900 afgebroken Eerste Gesticht heeft gestaan. De woningen zijn op rationele wijze gegroepeerd op een rechthoekig terrein waarbij de tussenliggende ruimte ingevuld is met een parkachtige aanleg met enkele diagonale paden.
Omschrijving
Evenwijdig aan de weg gelegen een bouwlaag tellend dubbel woonhuis op rechthoekige plattegrond met platte aanbouw aan achterzijde. Het geheel is uit baksteen opgetrokken in een sobere en functionele stijl en wordt gedekt door een met pannen belegd zadeldak; windveren; goot op klossen; houten dakkapellen; schoorstenen in nok en voorste dakschild; staafankers. De voorgevels symmetrisch ingedeeld met 6-ruitsschuiframen met luiken; opgeklampte deuren met 2-ruits bovenlicht; alle getoogd. Zijgevels blind respectievelijk voorzien van een openslaand 6-ruits raam met vast kalf.

Block of two DWELLINGS of type II, built in 1901 commissioned by the Ministry of Justice and forming part of a group of double dwellings intended for second-rank clerks in administration, state bailiffs, field supervisors, clerks/supervisors at the factory. Parallel to the road a single-storey double dwelling on a rectangular floor plan with a flat extension at the rear.
