Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Ledger of the General Audit Office, built in 1884 to the design of C.H. Peters in his characteristic brick architecture in neo-gothic-Renaissance manner.
Description
The rectangular building has three storeys and a gabled roof set between pointed gables with arch decoration at the top. The width of the building comprises four window bays. The long facades have flat buttresses between which are niches with segmental arches. Below the eaves line a projecting frieze of brick and below the drip moulding which terminates the ground floor a frieze of terracotta tiles. On the buttresses at the height of the floor levels ornamental wall anchors are placed. The windows contain composite wooden window frames. Against the rear facade on the southern corner stands a round stair tower with segmentally arched windows and drip mouldings between the storeys. The tower is covered by a conical slate spire with wrought-iron crest.
The interior on the ground floor is vaulted by spherical, plastered so-called Bohemian vaults. These rest on brick ribs rising from rubble masonry pilasters with terracotta leaf capitals.
Valuation
The building is of significance because of its architectural-historical and typological value. Architecturally it is of importance as a well-preserved example of architecture from the last quarter of the 19th century in the style characteristic of master builder Peters, in which neo-gothic and neo-Renaissance motifs combine. The building is of typological value as a specimen of archive architecture from the said period.
